That would be a great idea. All carbon emitters should be made to pay for the harmful externalities they cause. The best way to apply this tax to cars is to tax the fuel.

Sorry Angry, I really didnt write what I meant clearly(mental note-I must stay away from RiotAct when my children are argueing).

A good 60% of the ladies who attend Summernats dress themselves in a provacative way and are ‘surprised’ by the attention the recieve. I am by no way condoning sexual assault based on what the victim is wearing.

I love the car culture of the Nats, but the social behaviour of select people have driven away some big names in motorsport from the Nats.
I am all for an alcohol free event and getting rid of the strip show on the sat night. The way I see it, is if the owners/promoters allow such a show to go ahead, they are announcing its acceptabilty. Here in Canberra,there are plenty of other places people could go to see that kind of thing. Hopefully the promoter’s really look at what kind of festival the Nats should be and not what it has been. The Summernats really could be a win win situation for Canberra and our economy if handled right.

I agree with the person that said most of the people complaining have most likely been in Canberra for a shorter amount of time then the Nats.

If you don’t go why complain? Also all the rubbish about the crime, its alot worse in Civic on a Saturday night but I don’t see you guys running around calling for it to be banned.

The point I am trying to make is that comparing a music festival to a car festival is, in many ways, apples and oranges. I agree Civic sucks but having experienced the worst of both worlds it barely compares.

True FC, I would be really happy if the new gang can turn it into an actually family friendly event, as it is there would be as much chance me taking my daughters out to Civic with me on a Saturday at 3am as to the Nats, but hey, put some Australian Idol folk on, get a super cruise of Classic (ok maybe some doof doof boys to keep all happy)Cars, and restrict alcohol, maybe I’d take them.

It’s what happens when arseholes consume large volumes of alcohol.

An event that concentrates those aresholes in one space, and then profits from feeding them too much booxe, is what a large chunk of the community has had enough of.

I’ve never seen all that much objectification of women at a Big Day Out mate, and the stuff I have seen has been with extremely willing participants (like the Lillypad).

I’ve also never seen a blokes head repeated rammed into a car rim because he allegedy scratched a vehicle and I’ve never beaten any one up at said event because they walked up to my girlfriend and grabbed her on the box.

I’ve also never seen a voilent crime but I think pulling someone up for poor spelling is a pretty weak premise for trying to put yourself on higher ground.

What I did compare was seeing events that FC claimed to be the reason he/she was against the Summernats at other large events such as The Big day out. No didn’t miss the point, and I also agree with you. I think that it would be a fair call insaying that alot of the people that do spoil it for others have zero interest in the car show as a car show, and more of an excuse to act up for the week and blend into a crowd where the chances of getting caught are slim.
I have always said that most of the people that do spoil the Summernats are also not the ones that have entered cars.

What I’d LOVE to see is vehicle entry for summernats restricted to vehicles 30 years old and older. That way you’d filter out:
a) young wankers in crap mid 80’s and 90’s japanese hatchbacks with fluoro paint and doof doof stereos
b) late model commodores with big wheels and aftermarket exhausts
c) the generally crappy 20 or so year old cars that apparently pass for ‘street machines’ these days.

Get back to the classic street machines and cruisers. I reckon you’d get less entries but they’d be much higher quality, and you wouldn’t get nearly as much of the dickhead factor. I went to summernats a couple of years ago and the ‘average’ standard of vehicle was MUCH lower than it had been in previous years.

+1, not just in the City either, basically everywhere, but strangely enough, you don’t see the muppets that act like clowns on a Sat night, turn up with their cars to Summernats. They are usually the ones that turn up and screw it for everyone.

Summernats is fairly lame as far as car shows go. The main reason I like it coming to Canberra is all the wowsers here who think it’s the end of the world and that the only things that should be allowed to happen in Canberra should have their personal approval. It’s really great.

You think that’s a safe bet, trunking symbols? Like to make a wager then? The show us your whatevers and adult industry activity comes from the attendees, not the organisers.
