Swimming in the Cotter?

I wanted to go swimming somewhere in the Cotter and I was wondering where is a good safe spot to go swimming, that’s easy to get to.

And is the Cotter safe and fine to go swimming in anyway?

If by Cotter you mean Cotter River, the only accessible, nice spot is Vanities Crossing. Can get crowded on a hot day though.

I went for a drive out Uriarra way and noticed the signs there said that it was currently unsafe for swimming. Note parts of the cotter will be closed from the 11th.

You can find out about the Murrumbidgee Corridor at http://www.tams.act.gov.au/play/pcl/parks_reserves_and_open_places/recreation_in_acts_parks_forests_and_bushlands/murrumbidgee_river_corridor

and the swimming conditions at some locations at http://www.tams.act.gov.au/play/pcl/parks_reserves_and_open_places/water_catchments/water_quality_in_our_lakes_and_ponds/watersampling

Otherwise there are signposts as you enter most areas.

If access is still open Casuarina Sands above the weir is generally considered safe.

Past the Cotter up towards Tidbinbilla there’s nice paddling at Murrays Corner up along the Paddys River Road. It was a bit desolate there for a while after the bushfires but i imagine it would have grown back quite well by now.
