Got a budding whiz in the kitchen at home?

Belconnen Markets are calling for Teen Chefs to take part in their competition.

Teen Chefs competition has kicked off for 2012 and we are targeting all teenagers in the Canberra region to take part in this exciting competition!

Since starting out in 2009, Teen Chefs has encouraged students to get thinking about fresh and seasonal produce and how they can creatively incorporate it into bold and colourful meals. We inspire students and teenagers to live a healthy lifestyle and increase their skills in the kitchen.

Schools are encouraged to enter teams of up to 4 students where they will submit a special school profile along with a custom designed three course menu on a $60 dollar budget. This year all entries must include figs and carrots in their dishes! Finalists will then be shortlisted to go on to the live cook off right here at Belconnen Fresh Food Markets!!

As part of the competition, finalists are taken on a special tour through the Belconnen Fresh Food Markets, with explanations given on the different types of meat, poultry, fish and seasonal fruit and veg, and where its farmed and grown. This tour gives students the opportunity to speak directly with the Storeholders and ask any questions they may have and receive tips for their recipes. This is a great opportunity to experience the real value of shopping at fresh food markets.

This competition is a iniative pushed forward through loop, Canberra’s first sustainable community who strives to inspire sustainable living and healthy lifestyles throughout the community.

Registrations close 31 July 2012, so don’t waste anytime, we can’t wait to see your entries!
