Temporary road and lake closures: Skyfire 2017

The National Capital Authority (NCA) and the ACT Government wish to advise motorists and lake users of temporary road and lake closures on Saturday 18 March for Skyfire 2017.

Temporary Road Closures

The following roads will be temporarily closed for the event:

6 am – 10 pm

  • Parkes Way westbound between Kings Avenue and Commonwealth Avenue
  • Wendouree Drive between Constitution Avenue and Kings Avenue, Parkes
  • Queen Elizabeth Terrace between Parkes Place East and Parkes Place West, Parkes
  • Barrine Drive Car Park, Parkes
  • Regatta Point Car Park, Parkes
  • Rond Terrace Car Park, Parkes

6 am to 11 pm

  • National Library of Australia Staff Car Park, Parkes 12 pm to 10 pm
  • King Edward Terrace from Parkes Place West to Parkes Place East, Parkes 2 pm to 10 pm
  • Parkes Way east bound between Kings Avenue and Commonwealth Avenue, Parkes

12 pm to 10 pm

  • King Edward Terrace from Parkes Place West to Parkes Place East, Parkes

2 pm to 10 pm

  • Parkes Way east bound between Kings Avenue and Commonwealth Avenue, Parkes

4 pm to 10 pm

  • Albert Street East, Albert Street West, Regatta Place and Barrine Drive, Parkes

8 pm to 10 pm

  • King Edward Terrace between Commonwealth Avenue and Parkes Place West, Parkes

Traffic in the area will be directed by detour signs and traffic marshals. Only authorised vehicles will be permitted access.

Temporary Lake Closure

The following area of Lake Burley Griffin will be temporarily closed for the event:

10 am – 11 pm

  • Central Basin, Lake Burley Griffin

Only authorised vessels and users will be permitted in this area of Lake Burley Griffin between these times.

That seems like a a bit of overkill. For example, does Parkes Way westbound really need to be closed from 6am?
