The ACT Rural Fire Service will today, Monday 9 September, 2013, weather permitting, assist a private land holder with a hazard reduction burn on the property ‘South Lanyon’, Tharwa Drive in the district of Tuggeranong.

The burn will commence at 4:30pm on the eastern side of Tharwa Drive, in paddocks immediately north of the Tharwa bridge.

Two heavy tankers, three medium tankers, one command vehicle and 14 personnel will conduct the burn of up to three hectares in size.

The ACT Handy Map grid reference for the burn is the border of J16 and K16.

Temporary smoke cover may occur.

Every effort is made to conduct the burns in weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke in the area.

The Health Directorate advises that people with asthma, other chronic respiratory and/or chronic cardiac diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke.

People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.
