Kambah residents can have their say on the surrounds of their local shopping centre before the next phase of upgrades gets underway.
Design work has begun on the Stage 2 improvements to Kambah Village, which include new public toilet facilities, upgraded playground equipment including additional shade; more car parking to the south-east of the centre, a new public community gathering space with new furnishings, trees and lawn; upgraded lighting; better pedestrian connections to the east via the bridge over the drainage swale; additional screening of the rubbish collection area between the Kambah Inn and courtyard; pavement upgrades in the service area between the Kambah Inn and courtyard; and safety enhancements to the existing eastern car park.
Labor MLA Chris Steel said that before the design for the Stage 2 works was finalised, the Government wanted residents to provide feedback at www.yoursay.act.gov.au on a few key aspects of the design including features of the new playground and community recreation spaces.
“We want to know who currently uses the playground and what would make it a more fun and enjoyable experience for children. Whether that be more natural features such as logs and rocks for creative play or additional traditional play equipment like a slide, climbing frame and cubby house,” he said.
“The design features of the extension of the central courtyard are also up to the community to decide and could include picnic settings, lighting and landscaping upgrades including shade trees and a lawn.”
Mr Steel said suburban shopping centres like Kambah Village provided an important function in the community and it was important to maintain and improve the public facilities of neighbourhood shops to ensure they continued to meet the community’s everyday shopping and recreational needs.
