“The Monotremes are a proud Canberra outfit, experimenting with stylistic boundaries of popular music.
One of the features of Sand Newts! is its length, 15 minutes; the various juxtaposed sections result in an elegant extended form. In this sense, the song is “progressive pop”, but it’s impossible to apply a single genre label. The video clip, sourcing royalty-free archive video, also carries with it important elements of the narrative.
