Canberra’s Anytime Fitness gyms are throwing open their doors for a massive fundraising challenge to raise awareness of suicide and funds towards its prevention.
The national community event, the Tread Together fundraiser, will be held at 3 pm this Friday (25 May) till 3 pm on Saturday afternoon (26th May), in the fourteen Anytime Fitness gyms across the ACT – and more than 250 across the nation.
Anytime Fitness is calling on Canberra locals to lace up their runners and jump on the treadmill with the aim of raising $500,000 for Suicide Prevention Australia.
You don’t have to be a member of an Anytime Fitness club to take part, with Anytime Fitness opening its doors for everyone.
Members and the general public are asked to nominate themselves for a slot of 15-minutes or more on the treadmill with the option to get involved either as an individual or as a team to walk, run or even dance to raise awareness and funds for suicide.
Anytime Fitness Gungahlin manager Alfonso “Fuchi” Fernandez wants as many people to sign up to run a 15-minute slot.
Mr Fernandez said his aim for the gym is to have all five treadmills running for the 24 hours.
“I have been encouraging my members to fill our five treadmills and to keep them running from Friday 3 pm till Saturday 3 pm,” he said.
“It is a great opportunity to raise awareness and money for an important issue.”
Mr Fernandez will be running on Friday night from 11 pm to midnight and encourages members to bring along family members and friends to join in the fundraising event.
“We have filled out 87 per cent of the 24 hours but we still want members to book a 15-minute spot on the treadmill and bring along a family member or friend to join in the fun.”
