Wanted: Information on the Keren Ellen Rowland murder

JohnnyCharisma 4 November 2010 15

Hi all,

My friend and I are after any information related to Canberra Times newspaper reports (or any reports from any media for that matter), related to the disappearance/murder of 20 year old girl Keren Ellen Rowland; who went missing on Friday 28th February, 1971 on Parkes Way, Canberra.

We have checked out the National Library’s microfilm (The Canberra Times), and have found articles related to her disappearance.  We did not find any information related to the discovery of her body. This is what we were after. We were searching in the month of June in 1971, as there it was suggested here before that this is the month she was discovered. (3 months after her disappearance, but we did not know if this was 3 months from February or March)

If anyone can provide any further information on this cold case, or give us some dates in regards to which newspaper reports give detail to her discovery, that would be fantastic.

And yes, we know her body was discovered near the Air Disaster Memorial, but we were after specifics.

Thanks,

JC

John Moulis, friend and I sifted through “Canberra News” archives through the months of March and May. We were unable to find the newspaper article you referred to.

There is a lot of information out there for those willing to look for it.

Friend and I are still looking for confirmation as to the exact spot she was located at. We have a picture which shows this, but it is not yet specific enough.

Peace,

JC.

I was wondering if you could, point us in the direction of this secondary source?

Thumper: Is this your report or did you hear it from a secondary source? Do we know where her body was dumped exactly?

Secondary source, but one filled with quite of alot of information. Generally of a supernatural sort, but with a number of other facts.

having said that, I doubt I can help you anymore.

From memory she was driving convoy behind her sister in a mini on the way to a party in Deakin on a Friday night. Inexplicably she turned around and back headed up Kings Ave and was never seen alive again. Her car was found abandoned on Parkes was and her body, well you already know that bit. It was theorised she ran out of petrol and hitched a ride with the wrong dude.

You can apply to the National Archives for a copy of the police file, they hold all the AFP files that old. It doesn’t cost much, about $40 from memory. They will often edit out some stuff, but generally will give you the bulk of the file.

What do they edit out and why the hefty fee??

tateb80- thanks, already did this. We contacted her and she pointed us in the direction of the National Library of Australia.

I-filed: Decided to investigate this case more after hearing its connection to the Australian Air Disaster Memorial. Along the way we became more interested and focused on the case itself, in regards to finding out facts/suspects/time line/anything regarding this case.

Thumper: Is this your report or did you hear it from a secondary source? Do we know where her body was dumped exactly?

John Moulis: Thanks, this is the sort of information we are after. The National Library of Australia has catalogues of this tabloid and we will check it out this weekend.

Out of interest my friend and I visited her grave today, in Woden Cemetery. Looked to be untouched.

Keep the info coming,

JC

I can remember as a teenager reading the story about the discovery of Keren’s body on the front page of the Canberra News, an afternoon tabloid published by The Canberra Times 1969-1974. The story had the banner headline MY KEREN! above a large photo of her father crying. If you look up the archives of the Canberra News you will probably find it.

Interestingly, Keren Rowland’s ghost has reportedly been seen close to where her body was dumped near the Air Disaster Memorial.

Do you mind my asking why you’re questing after the info? Film? Book? Family?
