Who will crack?

All retailers selling the new Harry Potter book have all signed an agreement that they won’t open the boxes of “The Deathly Hallows” until 9am Saturday for the world wide release. There is a rumour in the book trade that the big guns might decide to open their boxes Friday to either get a jump on the competition or follow their big superstore parents in the US and UK if they go earlier. The talk is that they are willing to risk the lawsuit simply because the penalties have never been specified by the publisher.

If anyone spots a shop in Canberra doing this can you let me know? I want to get my copy as soon as possible and I also think the embargo and world wide release could do with a shake up since it’s been leaked on the net anyway.

Useless. I went hunting all over the place for these damn leaks (save me reading the book and I can wait for the movie) and there was bugger-all!

No, it’s from “Harry Potter meets Dolly Dunn and his fleshy magic wand”!

Mr Evil – is that from Harry Potter and the Wolf Creek Wizard?

From what I’ve heard, Harry gets picked up by a strange man in a Toyota Landcruiser and wakes up the next morning lying face down in a ditch with a headache and a very sore bottom.

Harry Potter – yawn.

What is this “/.” of which you speak – This is the riot act, a forum of safety and seclusion for arts sutdents – not some harsh *engineering* place…

(Whould you like fries with that?)

its a fictional storyline… sure, read the book but really, is your life that boring that you *must* get it within minutes of it being released to read it ?

There’s an alleged version going around. 80MB file of photographs of each double-spread page. Scholastic have filed subpoenas trying to find the source. I’m not sure if it is the real book, but I have read it.

As for possible head starts, the talk is that previously they’ve been able to hold future Potter books over the heads of retailers i.e. if you don’t play along, we won’t give you the books next time. This time, though, they’re SOL on that front.

I’ve preordered mine at Toys R Us, so roll on Saturday!
