Just throwing a lifeline out there to find out what there is to do in Canberra to bring in 2009 ??

Gots nowhere to throw my own party, and wanted to find some events to attend.

Don’t really care about people’s ‘private’ plans, but if anyone can be helpful to let us know whats happening in and around Canberra…

I figured that was why she was now famous: looks nice. God she was embarassingly bad. And, after the crackers, they threatened to put her on again! So I hurriedly went to bed.

But she certainly is an attractive young lady. She could have the top off my egg any morning!

Natalie Bassingthwaite.. teh song was called “Alive” and that is false advertising because it was thoroughly DEAD after she murdered it. Ugh. Bring On the Crackers!

Well I’m at home now, having one of one mango vodka and lemonades, had a game of darts with Mrs Danman and will probably crash around 00:01 01/01/09.

Not that I am old, just boring..

Bogan neighbours, don’t you love them? I have some too, although over the past year the anti-social behaviour has reduced quite a lot.

Mr Bastard, chucking a fat hammer with a long handle would have really got the message across!

I’m not concerned about them having a house party on NYE but the burn outs, smashed glass etc. on the street gets a bit much every single weekend.

In my last house I got fed up with a bunch of hoons forever “burning out” in the street. I went round and asked them politely, not to as my kid plays in the street as do other families.

They didn’t stop. Not until one of them was doing a burnout out side my house and so I threw a hammer at his car. He shot off.

Then I went down to see the rest of them, armed with the same hammer, and informed them that the next person to do a burnout would get his car reduced to bite sized pieces.

I’m lucky. I’m 6′ 2″ tall and have a couple of black belts to my name, I wouldn’t recommend it to everyone. (Mind you they were a bunch of weedy student types, I don’t think any of them would have the bottle to try to retaliate.)

Just tried that URL ilmarinen, the server is now down apparently.

I’ll be spending tonight sitting at home watching DVDs with the wife. Socialised a lot over Xmas and am in need of some quite time. That said, I’m anticipating having to go and knock on the neighbors door at some point around 1:30am. I’m not concerned about them having a house party on NYE but the burn outs, smashed glass etc. on the street gets a bit much every single weekend.

I’m still nursing bruised knuckles from having to knock on their door 3 weeks ago.

Seems like Canberra has also not gotten to the stage of celebrating the current New Year’s Eve, touch wood.
Check out http://www.canberraonline.com.au/newyearseve/; we’ll be celebrating NYE 2007!
See you all in a year’s time to celebrate NYE 2008.

Gosh I hope that Bee Gees tribute band are there. They really know how to rock it HARD.

The Albert Hall thing is also all ages which usually equals lots of drunk 16 year olds.

Has anyone been to the Hyatt gig before? Alternatively are there any nice restaurants doing anything special?

I heard an ad on the radio for the Albert Hall thing, it’s a dance party. You have to buy tickets apparently.

Regardless of the original posters intentions, I reckon house parties are the wayto go, for every reason described by me in thedrink driving thread.

Canberra has not gotten to teh stage where its unsafe to have a party at home yet… touch wood.

consume esky

i don’t think insulating foam and plastic is a healthy nye feast, ant… 🙂

usually a good vibe on woolley street for nye – good food, a few bars, pretty lights and chinese who let off fireworks at the drop of a hat!

Find a nice spot by the lake, consume esky, let off crackers and play music of choice at loud volume. Invite friends.

Easy peasy.

Screw Canberra, go to Sensation in Melbourne!

The ARHS (ACT) are running a special train that leaves at 9am Wednesday from Canberra (Kingston), also stopping at Queanbeyan, to Sydney, for those who want to go celebrate New Years Eve there.

It allows plenty of time to grab dinner in Sydney, see the fireworks, and crawl back to Sydney Terminal station for a 2am departure, arriving back at Canberra around 10am.

Sleeping berths are $369pp (return).

(It won’t work for me though, since I’m already in Sydney til a week after New Years)

From the Summernats site:

8.00pm : Jack Daniels Bar opens
9.00pm – 12.30am : Masters Of Rock Show Band in the Jack Daniels Bar
12.45am : Bar Closes

The night before Summernats = packs of drunk guys cruising Civic = me staying far away from the city.

Will probably just do drinks at a friend’s place… sorry Genie 🙂

A couple of options for those desperate enough.

The family friendly concert in Civic Square will kicking off at 7.30pm and conclude at 12.45am. Bass in the Place will start at 9pm and continue until late. Both events are alcohol free. For more information contact Canberra Connect on 132281 or visit http://www.events.act.gov.au

Fireworks at both 9PM and Midnight fired from up on City Hill.

I’m sure SummerNats will be having some sort of shenanigans.
