Young Libs take control

I hear around the uni that Duncan McDonald and the ANU young Libs have told the ACT Lib Party executive (read faceless power hungry anti Kent people) that they don’t want to be part of them, and want to separate.

Why? My sources tell me this comes from the executive (read Vice President, party thug and jackass Wal Barnier) telling them to have a new AGM because he didn’t like the outcome. Well done Duncan it’s about time someone stood up to this larger than life buffoon.

I also read in the Canberra Times that they (the faceless executive) wanted to bring in some draconian changes to their constitution so they could get rid of people like Kent and anyone else they don’t like in 12 hours, congrats to you, Alistair and Henry for turning out the troops to stop them. This is not some third world dictatorship, I hope this sends a message to the older gens and the faceless execitive that just because we are young, it doesn’t mean that we are powerless to voice our opinion. More power to you Duncan.

“VP Fat Bastard” has a webpage…he does look like a thug so I wouldn’t be calling him VP Fat Bastard.

S4anta – at least it’s quicker and more open than the C(R)AP approach to policy. “Vote for us, we’re nice” does not actually constitute policy.

This must be how they release their policy statements…

Hey Cavalier

Very brave. Having met VP Fat Bastard as you call him, no wonder you are hiding out at the uni.

About time you grew some big ones and fronted him. Let us know how you go after you get out of hospital.

Why, when I read this, did I shrug and think that the people who own the local Libs (they know who they are) probably shrugged as well? So long as there’s a moral conservative or two in the Assembly to parrot on about families and porn, and so long as there’s someone there to keep an eye on the property/land development side of life, I doubt that they care. And the thought that a pack of adolescents might be making a move – barely detectable on any version of the Richter scale. (Come to think of it, the Beaufort scale, which measures wind, might be more apt).

Long-term members of the Liberal Party are sick and tired of a number of right wing Young Libs who continue to play their silly political games in local politics. They think they are very clever and carry on as though they are still on campus. If only they knew just how despised they are. A couple have been directly involved in shenanigans that have managed to bring the local Liberal Party into disrepute. You have to question whether they have any real ethics given the people they have strongly supported. Let’s face it, a couple of these well-known young characters have little real world work experience. They preach the ethos of the private sector but seek a cushy job as a political staffer (in a job provided by a mate) or with an industry association. None of the well known “crew” are entrepreneurs or small business owners. They are so independent most still live at home with their parents.

This is the Best. Post. Ever.

I haven’t laughed this hard since CrazyChester was posting regularly.

I rest my case after all the posts. All you older gens having a go at us again, guess what, you will die and we will be in charge so get used to it.

I am really happy for everyone to have their own opinion and differences but I don’t see anyone defending VP Fat Bastard (yes Austin Powers character for you oldies)or his mates on the faceless executive, lets put some faces to them(Dr Winnifred Evil, mini me Dominico, Frau Natalie Farbissina, Scott Alan Evil, Basil Rikard Exposition, Sen Gary Goldmember, Zed Powers, Brendan Number 2 Smyth, Tio Shagwell, Jimmy Random Task, President Mike & Commander Coe).

Hope that helps everyone.

Yes right wing, you’d rather we be left like Paul Krugman or Karl Marx, yeah Marxism worked didn’t it.

7. Who is Alistair? Branch President, Kent supporter, right wing hack

I though being members of liberal student politics, they were all right wing hacks?

Considering that the username for this post is ‘Cavalier’ and the self styled faction that Henry and Duncan are members of call themselves ‘the Cavaliers’, I think this story should be read with the understanding that it is biased to the extreme and amazingly self sycophantic.

As for the constitutional changes, they would have actually made it a lot more difficult for management committee to suspend or expel Coe, Kent or anyone else. The amendments would have changed the requirements from a simple plurality on management committee to a 2/3 absolute majority.

Circusmind: They fight for meaningless positions because they don’t have anything else.

Ahh, The Young Liberals. The perfect place for whinging beatnicks born three decades too late.

…so they can join the public service when they graduate?

could anyone enlighten me as to why these resume-stuffing law students cum politicians fight so hard for such minuscule power?

OMG – Some lazy arts undergrads got involved in student politics and decided to make a big deal out of something!!! Holy Crap Batman!

We love that the local Libs (old and young) want to air their dirty laundry on our site, it makes us feel special

And I thought the Internet was Serious Business…

As a Labor supporter, it always makes me happy that the Young Liberals are the future of the Liberal Party.

In answer to hk0reduck’s post;

1. Who is Kent? Gary Kent, Liberal Party candidate for Molonglo, Former Party President, well hated and well liked within the party
2. Why are people Anti-Kent? Mainly because he wanted to get rid of the MLAs who were agianst him.
3. is Wal Barnier the VP of the ACT Liberal Party? Yes
4. Did Wal Barnier did not like the outcome of the Young Liberals AGM? yes
5. What was the outcome? Duncan’s side won by 30 odd to 6
6. Why did Wal Barnier not like it? Because he was the 6
7. Who is Alistair? Branch President, Kent supporter, right wing hack
8. Who is Henry? Another right wing hack

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh…

I think that just about sums it up.

The only thing that needs to be said is for the Liberals it’s exactly the same internal fighting they have always had going on, all that has changed is that it is just a different day. I laugh when they say they have solved all the problems from the past and are working as a team.

I wonder if Belinda Barnier the Molonglo candidate and Wally Barnier are related. There would be a great news story if he used his executive position to cut the legs out from other molonglo candidates like Kent to ensure that Belinda does well.

they’re married…

poor little left out young liberal, grow up and join the real game. uni politics is an excuse for arts students to pretend they have any sort of skills that they can sell in the real world.

What the original poster did not mention was that the Annual General Meeting in question was held unconstitutionally.
– Full notice of the AGM was not given until the day before the meeting, it was required to be given a week before.
– On every ballot the names of the “establishment” candidates were placed first on the ballots, rather then the names being randomly drawn as is required.
– There was a requirement set by the previous executive to “give notice” of intention to run, however such a requirement is unconstitutional, nominations have to be taken from the floor.

The person responsible for this is former ANU liberal club president Aaron McDonnell, the NSW right hack who was also responsible for illegitimately altering the constitution of the club last year.
It’s worth noting that Aaron is now campaigning for former party president Gary Kent in Molonglo, having broken off most of his involvement in the ANU liberal club.

Hahaha Avy…..you’re the 5th person now “interested”. LOL

Oh come on moderators – how slow a news day does it have to be to let this kind of submission through? Other than Cavalier here, I can envisage about three people interested in this rubbish, which in the old days would have been scrawled on a wall in the boys toilets instead.

I can see this thread heading for greatness.

I’m not involved in anyway with Student Politics at the ANU but IIRC from Woroni (ANU student newspaper). I’ll Paraphrase what I remember and see if I can find my old copy that is lying around later.

It was alleged that the leader changed the constitution to make it harder for him to be kicked out.

The leader claimed that there was a mix-up and the wrong constitution was posted/handed out to members. The constitution that was posted/handed out was made in a team-building/brain-storming session at some time but was not intended as a replacement of the current one. I can’t recall if people believed him or not, either way it’s a bit of a big mistake to make.

To assist people who aren’t you in understanding this could you please explain:

1. Who is Kent.
2. Why are people Anti-Kent.
3. is Wal Barnier the VP of the ACT Liberal Party?
4. Did Wal Barnier did not like the outcome of the Young Liberals AGM?
5. What was the outcome?
6. Why did Wal Barnier not like it?
7. Who is Alistair?
8. Who is Henry?

I couldn’t give a rat’s about the young libs, but as a matter of interest, Cavalier, do I detect a hint of antagonism toward your faceless executives? Assuming you’re a supporter, isn’t this kind of like talking shop in front of a whole lot of people who would really just prefer to be left out of it?

Also, wasn’t the leader of the young libs in canberra caught changing the constitution to his own advantage last year without approval or consent? (can anyone clarify this?)
