If the idea of escaping the heat this week and finishing off your Christmas shopping in spacious, cool, air-conditioned comfort sounds pretty good to you, then the Canberra Outlet is where you want to be.

Forget lugging heavy bags back and forth, and jumping in and out of a hot car to visit several different shopping centres in order to get what you need.

With the opening of the marble-tiled premium mall and the addition of new international retailers (such as Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein and Swarovski) now complementing the huge existing range of retail outlets, you really can find everything you need in one trip.

In fact, Canberra Outlet stylist Tracey Davis says she’s genuinely pushed to understand why anyone would pay full price to shop elsewhere.

“Especially at Christmas, the Canberra Outlet is the place for savvy Canberran shoppers who want and expect quality products and premium labels at affordable prices,” said Tracey.

“I think most of us can identify with the painful reality of buying full-priced gifts for loved ones ahead of Christmas Day, knowing those same products will be heavily reduced in price come Boxing Day.

“You can skip the pain by heading to the Outlet Centre, which means you skip straight to the sale by purchasing quality, well-made gifts at prices comparable to cheaper stores.”

In addition to gifts, there’s the international supermarket to stock up on all your Christmas supplies, and an extensive bottle shop that features many local spirits and wines, a vast food court to keep your energy levels up, and the added bonus of free parking.

As if that’s not enough to convince you, the Centre has some special offers in the lead-up to Christmas as well.

For a gold coin donation and up until Christmas Eve, you can take your own picture with Santa, with all proceeds going to support local charity Marymead.

Also supporting Marymead is a gift wrapping station, where you can get avoid the tangles of ribbon and tape, and have your newly-bought gifts beautifully wrapped ready to place under the tree, also for just a gold coin donation.

And the kids will be bored no more thanks to the Christmas Scavenger Hunt, where they can help Santa find out whose nose Rudolph ate (!) in a search around the Centre. If you sign up to be a Kids Club Member you go into the draw to win a $250 Centre gift card – that oughta ease the Christmas credit card squeeze.

So what sorts of gift can you actually find there?

Gifts for Her

If the lady in your life enjoys a summery cocktail, you can jump on board the latest viral sensation and grab a bottle of locally made Unicorn Spirits Gin Liqueur. This flavoured tropical liqueur sparkles with edible glitter and changes colour when topped up with a citrus mixer – and not too heavy on the alcohol, it’s a super fun Christmas tipple that you can find at Liquor Boss.
