There was a pleasing deluge of questions for the new Liberal Leader Jeremy Hanson to answer via email.

Sadly we can only send ten so I’ve had to cull them. I even missed out on getting my own questions in there.

Thanks to all who participated we look forward to getting the answers soon.

    1. poetix

What is your favourite music, and why?

    2. Thumper

What is your stance on the over supply of bloody pokies in this town?

    3. PantsMan

Given the corruption findings by NSW ICAC in relation to the former NSW Government, and every NSW council around the ACT, do you think we are immune for corruption? Should the ACT have an ICAC?

    4. caf

How will the Canberra Liberals change under your leadership?

    5. bundah

In light of another woeful decision where a Canberra man has avoided gaol for crashing and killing his wife while high on cannabis what will you do to fix the ongoing joke that the judiciary has become in this town over the last decade?

    6. jett18

What single issue in Canberra do you see as in need of change the most?

    7. rosscoact

How would a Hanson Liberal government increase and diversify Canberra’s income base?

    8. urchin

What would you do to make housing cheaper. Not easier to buy (land rent, etc.) but *cheaper*.

    9. Skidbladnir

Why has it been about 15 years since the ACT populace viewed the local Liberal party acting as a viable government, let alone a viable alternative government, and how will you address this?

    10. frontrow

Under the Liberals, will parking fees be set to effectively ration parking, maximise revenue or punish drivers in order to encourage public transport?

Will parking meters be upgraded to accept cards or at least notes? If not, will you at least be able to buy pre-paid parking vouchers for Civic in Civic?

Will flexible work arrangements be supported by offering pre-paid vouchers for non-consecutive days?

Disappointed that my duck question didn’t make the cut, but i understand why :/

Perhaps JB you could ask it as an optional [joke] question?

“Why a duck?” is one of mankind’s great questions, first asked by
by Chico Marx in 1929. It should be posed to every MLA.

PS: You may also ask Google.

If Zed was still in charge, I doubt answers would be provided before the next election.

“In light of another woeful decision where a Canberra man has avoided gaol for crashing and killing his wife while high on cannabis what will you do to fix the ongoing joke that the judiciary has become in this town over the last decade?”

Whilst the essence of the question is fine, the intro should be changed to avoid suggesting that the accused was high on cannabis at the time.

“Mr Dingwall said he could not be satisfied beyond reasonable doubt that the accident was the result of negligent driving by Mr Wilson.

“There is no basis for finding beyond reasonable doubt that the defendant was affected by cannabis to such an extent that it affected his judgment as to the appropriate speed at which he should have entered the bend, nor that it affected his judgment, reflexes and reaction time when confronted with a kangaroo on the road just ahead,” Mr Dingwall wrote in his judgment.

If the Court, examining all the evidence put before it, could not find that the accused was driving whilst affected by cannabis to the extent that it affected his judgement, then poster “bundah” is no better placed to determine impairment based on reading a Canberra Times article.

I always wanted to be the light relief…A bit like the albino koala has twins story at the end of the news.

Though I’ll be genuinely interested to read about the music he likes.

i’m betting nana mouskouri and rage against the machine, with a little hilltop hoods for good measure. or i could be wrong.

I have it on good authority that it’s Tim Fischer who is the Rage Against the Machine fan …

The duck question made the short list.

Could it please be a supplementary?

And being ex-military, surely he’d have some marching band music secreted somewhere in his house?

Why not a horse?

I’ll be interested in the answers to 5, 7, and 8 (and possibly 3). the rest are fluff fodder for experienced pollies (and 10 was basically part of their election promises ‘set’, so we should know that one already? Though happy to hear it reiterated)!

Wot, no duck question? If Jeremy tried to answer that one even slightly plausibly he would get my vote.

+100 The duck question was gold.

Hooray for bundah’s question though (question 5) – I’d love to see how Hanson addresses it.

The duck question made the short list.
