Magic busway disappears up Corbell’s ars*

The thing about magic items is that you just have to wave your wand and … “pouf!” … they disappear.

CT reports on Hargreaves dumping a whole world of contempt on Corbell’s time-travelling stretch of bitumen.

UPDATED: The Chief Minister has been on the ABC hosing this down quite brutally.

Mr Stanhope says comments from Transport Minister John Hargreaves, who says it will not be built in his lifetime, do not reflect the Government’s position.

I’m certainly not surprised. Someone had to take the common-sense approach to this pie-in-the-sky eventually.

The King has looked at the Royal coffers and decided that there just ain’t enough money…

One also needs to ask how much has this pie in the sky already cost the taxpayer?

One would suspect quite a great deal.

Heard comrade Stanhope on the radio this morning repudiating Hargreaves and saying the busway is still go.

Comrade Stanhope said we dont have the population base, we cannot afford it, it will never pay for itself. He said we may look at it in a few years. He said that we reserved land for GDE for 40 years and we are just doing the same here. And he said forget about light rail.

The mayor and his councillors are finally realising that there aren’t money trees in the ACT and some responsible budgetting is required to balance the books.

Presumably this reasoning also applies to his tree garden. Seems the realisation is too late, though, for the funds wasted on his bill of rights and ongoing costs associated with it.

He can piss off the poetry-on-buses too.

Stranegly enough no bleating press release to announce this?

    This is a Labor town….

Can’t have the press bagging out our esteemed great leader…

However, in these times, it’s a smart and responsible move to get rid of the busway and the arboretum, although money has already been wasted on feasibility studies, etc…

I wonder if the RiotACT e-mail questions to Corbell have disappeared up the same orifice as the Busway???????

Mr Evil, what you say has the ring of truth.

seems like it is ok to spend 150 million for a road (private transport) but not a public transport system. Can’t afford it, too right, get out of your cars

The car drivers who pay rego, pay fuel excise, and then subsidise the loss making bus system?

Nothing corbell likes to do better than is to piss my, and everyone else’s, tax dollars up the wall.

Canberra will be a better place with him out of office.

Hmmm..interesting reference to magic, considering the planning minister’s past connection to, of all things, wicca. Combined with that his belief that he can create a magical Canberra, full of too much development and not enough thought…why is this person still in office??

I especially loved the comment – “We don’t want to lose corporate knowledge and corporate advice too quickly.” – They probably want to do it slowly…

I wish I had a dollar for every time I went into an organisation, and nobody knew anything about what they did 12 months ago, or (more importantly – *Why* they do something)

But people will use a $150M road. They wont use an orphan busway system to any great extent.

Now the crimes reports today that they’re still going to go ahead with the $6m feasibility study so it can be dusted of in 30 years time when they might have a need for it

Fuck these clowns make me laugh

If the kyotonazis are right and global warming will have sea levels flood Canberra maybe it can be used as ferry lane.

speaking of ferry lanes, I’d love to see one of these ‘inter-lake express lanes’

barking toad (Veteran Rioter) 15:10, 19 May 06

shite Indi, ya shouldna posted that – 500m euros for 918 metres of ferry lane

the mayor and his sad mate will think the cost of the warp speed bus lane is miniscule in comparison and they’ll go ahead

It’s the ole reunification bridge trick, saw this once…thought, bejebus these European’s have a got a bootload of $$.

We have a right to demand express canals, with gondolas etc transporting us through a web of water lanes…ah, to be in the Venice of the South…and in love!

  23. #23
    VYBerlinaV8 (Rabble Rouser) 15:37, 19 May 06

Sounds to me like the Comrade has demanded canals, but without the ‘c’…

I want a large channel dug from LBG to Batemans Bay so I can catch bream and flatties off Scrivener Dam.

That sounds feasible, doesn’t it? A bit maybe?

Maybe we can now use the saved money to fund the teachers’ pay rise??
