What's happening in Weston? Four taken into custody!

Does anyone know what was happening in Weston today around 1.30pm near Cooleman Court?

After lunchtime, I noticed an unmarked AFP 4WD in our street and then a blue pyjama-wearing AFP person run down a footpath and jump inside the 4WD and it drove off.

Next I saw a marked patrol car slowly drive up the street and prop for a while.

And finally I saw another pyjama-wearing law enforcer with a dog, sniffing out clues (or someone).

Any idea what was going on?

ACT Policing has taken four people into custody and enquiries are continuing.

ACT Policing’s press releases have dramatically improved in the last couple of weeks. Perhaps someone up the line has been alerted to RA’s running commentary?

They do still perpetuate the error that ‘anyone’ is plural in the standard Crimestoppers blurb.

Baby steps.

There are all those Fairfax subs out there looking for work. I still believe that prosecution briefs would be greatly improved by their input.

I know there was a discussion on this recently, but what do you base that on?

Sounds about as much info as us citizens ever deserve. Maybe they figure by releasing shorter media statements, we cant pick at their poor grammar and spelling.

Says he who makes a mistake in his second sentence. Priceless!

ACT Policing has praised the awareness and responsiveness of the public after receiving reports of a suspicious person doorknocking in Weston yesterday afternoon (June 8).

About 1.30pm, a concerned member of the public contacted police and provided a description of a male who was conducting doorknocks on houses in Chapman.

ACT Policing’s Crime Targeting Team attended and detected a stolen white Nissan Pulsar on Hindmarsh Drive. When police attempted a traffic stop on the Nissan, the car drove off the road and the four occupants attempted to flee.

Police later apprehended the alleged driver of the stolen car in a backyard of a cul de sac in Weston. A short time later, members of the Specialist Response and Security (SRS) Team boarded a bus near Cooleman Court in Weston and took one adult male and two juvenile males into custody.

A 23-year-old Queanbeyan man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today charged with driving whilst disqualified, failing to stop when requested by police, and driving a stolen motor vehicle. The juveniles have been released without charge and an 18-year-old man is assisting police with enquiries. The investigation is ongoing.

Sergeant Shane Broomby, from ACT Policing’s Crime Prevention team, said that people should contact police on 131-444 if they are suspicious about the people who doorknock areas, but fail to establish their bona fides when challenged.

“People, such as charity workers, who have a genuine need to doorknock, will provide identification when asked. Home owners have every right to be suspicious if people appear to knocking on doors in the neighbourhood with a potential intent to break into a home, or to commit a crime,” Sergeant Broomby said.
