Ausdance ACT is one of the seven ACT arts organisations that will be supported by the 2018 ACT Arts Fund.

Minister for the Arts and Community Events, Gordon Ramsay, announced yesterday (6 December) that the seven organisations will share in more than $533,000 in funds as part of the ACT Art Program Funding.

Ausdance ACT, Australian National Capital Artists, ArtSound FM, Canberra International Music Festival, M16 Artspace, Screen Canberra and the You Are Here Festival will all benefit from the funding.

“Canberra is home to a diverse range of arts organisations and the ACT Government is proud to support a variety of innovative and accessible arts programs through its Program Funding”, said Minister Ramsay.

“The assortment of programs supported illustrates the dynamic nature of Canberra’s arts organisations and aligns strongly with the Government’s commitment to enabling artists to create and produce vibrant art while encouraging active community participation in the arts”.

Amongst the organisations funded for 2018 is Ausdance ACT; whose programs support ACT-based dancers of all levels, abilities, ages, and genres, and encourages the next generation of dancers through professional mentoring and career pathway programs.

Ausdance ACT also has tailored programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People, with a focus on young people, which ensures that all members of our community have access to the arts.

Emma Dykes from Ausdance ACT said that the funding they will receive will go towards providing a boost to their currently under-manned staff.

“At present, our staff is quite small, so it will provide an extra boost to the people on the ground who actually make the program run,” Miss Dykes said.

“This, in turn, will help us pursue our goal, which is to provide everybody with a chance to dance, regardless of age or genre.”

The 2018 ACT Arts Fund announcement is on top of the government’s recent announcement of over $922,000 in various arts grants, which according to Minister Ramsay, demonstrates the ACT government’s commitment to local arts.
