Science writer Julian Cribb will be opening a new art exhibiton at CSIRO Discovery this wednesday that explores environmental issues with our food.
Titled Food for Thought, the exhibition is the work of two emerging Canberra artists, Rosina Wainwright and Dianna Budd.
The exhibition will feature Rosina’s challenging sculptural works and Dianna’s quirky work in paint and collage.
Dianna and Rosina are members of an ANU Field Studies group of artists. They believe we must support Aussie farmers so that the nation improves its self- sufficiency in food and reverses the trend to increased imports.
Rosina says that her experience of talking to farmers and people in country towns opened her eyes to their issues.
“There are so many issues we need to confront – how far our food comes and from where, what we pay for it, that we are building houses on our most fertile soil and more. I want people to look at my work and really think about what we can do before it is too late.”
