Needing cash for breakdown. Where to get quick money?

300,000 kms in 7 years?! How many laps of Australia have you done? My ’94 car has done 331,000 kms. Clutch is fine, just everything else is buggered. And regular servicing sadly won’t save you, or even pick up major problems (like worn wheel bearings and hub assemblies so stuffed the wheel’s almost falling off).

Do you have an account with a bank or a credit union? If you have an ongoing relationship with a financial institution, it’s a bit more likely you can get a personal loan off them.

You could possibly get a same day loan from your bank (at least one of the big 4 offers it) for $5k, you spend $1.5k on your wheels and then plow the remaining $3.5k back into the loan with no penalty.

Thanks for the suggestions! Yes the car has always had regular services, it has just under 300,000klm, it has clutch problems, it is 7 years old after all. Thanks but I don’t need any counselling. I do not have a credit card and by the time I apply and receive one I would be out of this situation, I only need this money for no longer than 6weeks more like 2-3weeks fingers crossed, but I really need it by Friday. There was a pawnbroker/loan office in Braddon years ago that were very helpful in times of need, can our banks lend people small amounts of money under $1000 NOW. I am one of those ‘lucky’ people that have no one else to ask in tuff times (my fault). I have property for sale interstate property which I hope sells quickly after I buy new car maybe, but that does not help me this week, and yes ‘porn’ would be more fun than ‘pawn’!

Yeah, don’t ever go to the pay day loan places. They’re basically legal loan sharks.

Huge thumbs up to Care Financial Counselling. They also have a No Interest Loans Scheme to look into.

If you’re on any kind of centrelink payment (including and especially family tax benefit) you can get advances on future payments, which are effectively interest free loans where the principle is paid back over 6 months.

I’d be going the credit card option. You can get a second one and do a 0% balance transfer as well if you need a bot more time.

Any reason you’re leaning toward this option and not a credit card? Even if you have to swallow an annual fee it would likely be cheaper overall, especially if you miscalculate your time-frame for repayment. I’d think that the banks would be pretty keen to push lines of credit with consumer spending down and saving up, so you should be able to find a good deal if you shop around.

Maybe for quick money you need to consider porn rather than pawn.
