Looking for a great walk in Tuggeranong that’s not too long, which is dog and kid friendly, and includes a great cafe to boot?
We’ve just researched a beautiful walk showcasing a typical slice of the best Tuggeranong has to offer. It starts and ends at the Gowrie shops and only takes a relaxed 90 minutes to complete (we also suggest shorter options if this is too long!). You can see our free, detailed walking directions at Canberra Dog Walks but read on for a preview.
Meandering through the well established suburbs of Gowrie and Fadden, the route follows a series of interconnected open spaces.
You’ll pass through the huge Gowrie playing fields, where dogs can roam off leash if sports games aren’t on, then into the Fadden Pines, also designated an off leash area.
Fadden Pines is a great destination in itself boasting a shady, cool pine forest to explore and a large recreational and picnic area with an adventure playground and skateboard ramps. If you have kids, you might not be able to tear them away to continue the walk. (But note the playgrounds are out-of-bounds for dogs.)
If you press on, you’ll reach a little nature park (dogs on leash) with fantastic views of the Brindabella Mountains and the Tuggeranong Valley. It’s also likely you’ll meet the resident mob of kangaroos who show little fear of walkers and their (on leash) dogs.
Then it’s all down hill through the suburbs, following more off leash routes back to the Gowrie shops.
There you can replace some of those burned off calories at the Common Grounds cafe. It offers excellent coffee, breakfast and lunch, and there are lots of outdoor tables out the back for walkers with dogs.
