bacon and egg roll

A thumping headache, a dry mouth and dizzy spells – all signs that last night consisted of one too many tequila shots or a little too much gin.

Despite what you might think about the existence of a hangover cure, there are some foods that you just crave when you’re in that post-alcohol state. Whether it’s a big, greasy cheeseburger, some hot chips drowned in chicken salt and gravy or a bit of dry toast – this week I am on the hunt for Canberra’s best hangover food.

So tell me – where do you go to feel better about yourself the morning after a big night on the sauce?

To vote, let me know who serves up the best hangover food in the comments below. I’ll try the two most popular places and let you know the verdict in next Monday’s Taste Off article.

oh dear…canberra “youth” ? the biggest p*ss heads in the country..
yes..i am going to preach not give you a solution for your hangover.(my creds are i used to be a pissed head too)
so get informed…..if you insist on binge drinking…which scars your liver (and your brain cells)…the worst thing to do is add some greasy food like bacon and fried egg…sheesh!
the best answer was from “ezy”…with the vegimite toast (NO BUTTER-more grease!)..plus the vitamins and fruit.
not to mention drink water before going to sleep…to rehydrate the brain….might save a few brain cells.
good luck.

How do you think Ms Cuzzillo will go claiming the drinks as a work related expense? How many colleagues do you think will offer their ‘research’ assistance for this article? Does the hangover count as compo or a work related injury? Will management provide said ‘researchers’ with a courtesy bus? I would be happy to offer my assistance negotiating a deal with management in return for an internship as a ‘researcher’.

Sorry but my experience would suggest that you’re wrong. I’ve been drinking for 40 years and eating greasy food the next day. My liver is in perfect condition thank you.

No doubt Lachlan Court cafe in Brisbane Ave. I’ve always gone for the egg and bacon roll; my work colleague and drinking partner for the greasy burger. All served with 2 full sugar cokes and a side of chips. Lachlan Court has delivered perfect hangover food since the 70s and still does.

When preaching about preventing damage to brain cells it might help your argument if you include some correct spelling, punctuation and grammar.

I am, of course, having a friendly stab at you. But seriously, when I indulge in a big night and subsequent hangover remedy I’m well aware that it’s not good for me I simply choose to do it anyway because that’s one of the joys of being an adult.

Central Cafe in Queanbeyan, the biggest servings of the greasiest food you could hope for in your addled state.

Better question: Where do you go for tucker while you still have your wobbly-boots on ???

I would like to nominate this as a future Best of Canberra post.

I’ll second that nomination Dame_Canberra. I’ve never heard the term “wobbly-boots” before but I like it!

Hangover cure for me is just a large fries and frozen coke from Maccas. Nothing like grease, salt and frozen sugar to pick you up

The all day breakfast from Wattle Snack Bar. It’s all of the greasy deliciousness you could ever want from a hangover meal.

Actually for some strange reason Red Rooster always hits the spot when I’m pretty hung over.

I do a fry up at home morning after a big night so I can’t offer a suggestion here, however I’d like to add my vote to the suggestion that in order to write an article on the best hangover food you will need to actually be hungover.

It’s been a long time since I have been hungover but:

1. If you think there is the possibility you could throw up after eating, don’t do the dry toast. Throwing up dry toast is incredibly painful.

2. A tradition in our house was always a trip to Kingsleys for a jumbo chips when in need of a hangover helper.

If I were to get a hangover now I’d probably drink a bunch of water and drag myself to Caffe Cherry Beans in Gungahlin for a Bacon and Egg Roll and, depending on if I could stomach it, a chocolate frappe.. but more than likely just stick to the water.

My local takeaway just changed owners so the jury is still out on them. Otherwise it is a +1 for California in Mawson.

California Cafe in Mawson. The breakfasts there are simple, cheap, and bloody good for the price.

I expect that to test these places properly you will need to be hungover.

After a boozy night – I will go for some vegemite on toast before bed – skip the butter. The next day, watermelon, high in vitamins B and C… but more importantly, magnesium! Plus the added benefit of keeping your body hydrated as the fruit is so water rich.

Or a potato scallop from the takeaway.

Surely to do this test properly you need to have a hangover in the first place.

Have a fun weekend!

avoid hangovers: stay drunk… otherwise, a bowl of pho, preferably at pho phu quoc.

The best hangover food in the world is a Hungry Jacks whopper, but that doesn’t get my vote this week.

The second best hangover food in the world is a greasy egg and bacon roll, preferably from Fox and Bow, and preferably with a hash brown shoved inside too. One vote to egg and bacon rolls from Fox and Bow!
