Three Moruya sisters have shone brightly in the 2018 Little Sellers Art Prize, while entries from NSW and the ACT for the ‘big’ Sellers are given more time.
Josephine, Ruby and Alison Muller of Moruya Heads all won awards, while Josephine, 16, was named overall winner with her multi-media work ‘In My Dream Anything Is Possible’.
Now in its third year, the Little Sellers is a companion event to the prestigious biennial Basil Sellers Art Prize.

Council’s creative arts development coordinator Indi Carmichael says 150 entries were received across the four age categories.
“The prize continues to grow as we aim to inspire Eurobodalla’s young people to pursue creative arts,” she says.
Ms Carmichael was delighted to see a number of finalists in the Little Sellers were also finalists in this year’s Mayor’s Writing Competition, held in August.
“This crossover of talent is not unexpected,” she says.
“It’s wonderful to see the creativity of our young people encouraged and thriving across the spectrum of arts. Long may it continue.”
Little Sellers Art Prize 2018:
- 5-8 winner: Chenae Cottington, runner-up Theo De Frenza;
- 9-12 winner: Tayah Boyd, runner-up Milly Shanahan;
- 13-15 winner: Meah Hancock, runner-up Ruby Muller;
- 16-18 winner and overall prize winner: Josephine Muller;
- Youth Award: Ruby Muller;
- Environment Award: Alison Muller;
- Children’s Award: Zahlia Kelly.
Josephine’s artwork won her $200 cash, donated by philanthropist and arts patron, Basil Sellers. She also won the 16-18 age group. Winners in each category received a $50 ‘Amanda’s of Mogo’ art supply voucher and runners-up a $30 voucher.
A special Children’s Award, Youth Award and Environment Award each attracted $75 prizes. These works will be acquired for Council’s permanent collection.

The Little Sellers Art Prize 2018 finalists’ artwork is on exhibition now at Moruya and Batemans Bay libraries, a great school holiday attraction. Libraries are open Monday to Friday 10 am to 5 pm and Saturday 9.30 am to 12 pm.
Meantime, entries have been extended for the ‘grown-up’ Basil Sellars which is set down for February next year in the new Basil Sellers Exhibition Centre at Moruya.
The major prize is $20,000, with entries open to artists across NSW and the ACT. The winning work will be acquired by Mr Sellers for his own unique collection.
Eurobodalla artists will also be in the running for Eurobodalla Shire Council’s $5,000 acquisitive prize.
Entries are now open until 4 pm, Monday, October 29.
