Simon Corbell is trumpeting his new Alcohol Crime Targeting Team (ACTT).
The new Alcohol Crime Targeting Team is taking strong action to curb alcohol related
violence, with more than 50 patrols already conducted to target offences under the new ACT
liquor laws, Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Simon Corbell, said today.Mr Corbell congratulated the new ACT Policing Alcohol Crime Targeting Team (ACTT) for their
positive results after just two weeks of deployment.“Since the team started patrolling licensed premises, the ACTT has visited more than 60
licensees to educate them on the new laws, and have conducted 53 targeted patrols to
ensure compliance with the new Liquor Act,” Mr Corbell said. The team has already issued 13 criminal infringement notices for offences including urinating in
public, consuming alcohol in a public place and traffic offences.“I am pleased to see that the new Alcohol Crime Targeting Team is wasting no time in getting
to work to reduce the amount of alcohol related violence in our community, and work with
licensees to properly transition to the new liquor laws,” Mr Corbell said.“The ACT Government funded 10 dedicated police officers, at a cost of $6.4m over four years,
in the 2010-11 Budget to deal with the challenges of alcohol related violence in our
community. This investment will be recovered by the new risk based fee structure that began
on December 1, 2010.
One suspects they’ll have a pretty good Christmas party.
