The Harmonie German Club is holding a Frühschoppen (Market Day) and Christmas Market on Sunday 19 November at 11am. From their website:

yeah, i get pretty bored during his movies. a clockwork orange makes me nauseous though, so i don’t watch it these days.

i have fallen asleep several times during clockwork organge. i think it is mostly that kubrick fails to engage me – despite the fact the fact that his ideas interest me.

yeah – big difference seein git on a big screen tho – rather than 42 inches.

Well, even shadows hasn’t shown it in about 6-7 years (largely because it came out on DVD – which means that, yes, you can see “Clockwork Orange” any time you want in Canberra).

According to Mr, hargreaves’ media release it’s the dog’s day out this Sunday, 11.30 to 14.30 at Lake Ginninderra, off Diddams Close.

Well, the last time the Ronin group generally showed stuff like “The Wall” was back when the Centre Cinema was closing – a lot of the old favourites are being lugged back

Although Shadows did show Seven Samurai sometime last year, from memory, for a few screenings. And there have been a few odds and sods this year as well (largely filling in for the Film and Sound Archive while they finish fine-tuning their new el-spectacular digital cinema).

aha bonfire.. when’s the last time electric shadows played those movies anyway? i’ll take an ignorant guess and say a fair while ago.. maybe for some special occasion? probably with something like the same frequency that dendy will screen them? hm. “damn the corporates, those assholes, they don’t play movies that don’t get played elsewhere anyway. o noes..”

you will never see this on 35mmm on the big screen again as arthouse cinema in canberra corporatises like every other city.

i doubt mcDendy cinemas will ever screen dr zhivago or seven samurai in any of its multi-screens.

In the theatre stakes, a lot’s finishing and one thing’s starting:

– “Can’t Pay? Won’t Pay!” finishes its run on Saturday night – farcial Italian Socialist schenanigans from the Nobel Prize winning Dario Fo, presented by Centrepiece Theatre – performances tonight, tomorrow night and Saturday night at 7:30, plus a matinee at 2pm on Saturday – at the Studio at the Street. Tickets $15-25.

– “Boston Marriage” also finishes in the main theatre at the Street this week – sex, scheming and sarcasm from David Mamet – performances tonight, tomorrow night and Saturday at 8pm, plus Saturday matinee at 2pm. Tickets $25-30.

– Free Rain’s “Summer of the Seventeenth Doll” is plugging itself as “The Most Important Australian Play Ever Written”, which feels a little hyperbolic – still, it’s a great production of a classic of Australian theatre, that still holds up almost 50 years later. Performances tonight, tomorrow night and Saturday at 8pm, plus Saturday matinee at 2pm (all tickets $18) at the Courtyard Studio of the Canberra Theatre – tickets $20-25 otherwise.

– “I’ll Be Back before midnight” kicks off for Canberra Rep this week – a retreat to a quiet country house becomes more and more dangerous, as twists, turns and gunshots create blood-curdling fun – $20 preview tonight, then tomorrow and Saturday night at 8pm, and on until 9 December. Tickets $20-$32.

The Cat Empire are shaking down Stage 88 on Sunday from 3pm… should be worth a look.
