Alice Thai Pad Thai. $10 lunch review

The food at Alice is fantastic, but the service is rather clueless. A dinner with my partner was made unnecessarily trying through a language barrier combined with a reluctance to write down the order leading to more than the desired quantity of order confusion.

A good Pad Thai is an absolute treat. Lemon Grass Thai does a great one, except it’s about 15 dollars 🙁 You get what you pay for, though!

@johnboy16 – I have a suggestion for a 10 dollar lunch review, mate. A Touch of India does a $9.90 meal deal. You get a choice of 1 dish, rice, plain or garlic naan and a can of soft drink. I always struggle to get through it all! The food is decent quality too! Go have a look and get it India, champ! 🙂

I am a bit worried about what this daily regimen of bought lunches is going to do for JB’s prospects of improving his love life.

My uncle ran the Tower Restaurant on Black Mountain for several years and their satirical writer (who is still with the paper) was refused a free meal. A restaurant review appeared a few days later slagging the place. This was followed a week or so later columns by the same writer accusing the souvenir shop of selling Aboriginal artifacts such as digeridoos made in Thailand as well as other items being imported from Asia at a time when 95 percent of the items in the shop were Australian made. Over the next year or so the paper printed a steady stream of stories criticising various aspects of Telecom Tower (as it was then called).

The negative restaurant review for the Tower was very strange as all the other reviews in the paper for several years heaped unstinting praise on said establishment. One day a few years later one of the paper’s journalists admitted in the paper that the paper printed positive reviews of a restaurant if the place in question gave them a free meal. It was a wink and a nod – “I’m from The Canberra Times” and the staff knew then and there to put NC (no charge) on the bill.

Today I still feel proud that we refused to go along with the shameful antics of a scummy little insignificant newspaper and their so-called journalists.

I can promise you all I just walk in off the street, order, and take my meal away.

Ding dong the witch is dead (as Jack Gibson said when Parramatta one a premiership in 81). The first mediocre/sort of scathing lunch review.

You gotta love a good pad thai and you don’t need to read between the lines to tell that wasn’t a good one.
