Having gone through summer with the dams at 100% Actew have announced that they’re getting rid of the roadside nag signage on water use.
After more than three years of Canberra commuters seeing daily dam level and water consumption information, the electronic variable water signs will disappear from local roads at the end of this week.
ACTEW Managing Director Mark Sullivan said the signs were installed on five major arterial roads across Canberra in response to the most significant, serious period of water scarcity ever experienced by our region. Due to the recent improvement in the water situation the signs will now be removed but will return if needed in future.
Mr Sullivan said: “The signs were initiated in 2007 when combined dam levels were at record low levels and Stage 4 water restrictions were imminent.
“Community interest in the region’s water situation was extremely high, with a need for people to be updated regularly, so ACTEW partnered with the ACT Government to install the signs and give daily information on how our dam levels were faring and how much water we were using.
Any bets on how long until they’re back?
