The National Museum of Australia has taken out the top Australian Tourism award for 2006 and the CIT has won an award for quality tourism education.
At the awards, announced tonight, the NMA won the title of Major Tourist Attraction 2006, an award it has won twice in the last three years. The museum apparently took out this title ahead of the Sydney Bridgeclimb and Dreamworld on the Gold Coast.
The CIT’s faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management won the award for Tourism Education and Training. ACT tourism minister Andrew Barr said, “This national award is great recognition of the high quality training we are providing students in the ACT.”
It is worth noting we understand these awards are based on submissions written by the entrants, and not on impartial judges’ observations. That said, the CIT’s award indicates they put in a very good submission up against those from comparable institutions.
Questacon received a commendation for the category of Significant Tourist Attraction.
The tourism awards ceremony will be held in Canberra next year.
