Need a New Fence - Recommendations for Fencing Contractor?

We used ACT Home Improvements to install our side fence. They arrived on time and delivered exactly what they said they would. In fact our neighbours decided to continue around the rest of their house.

Bad customer service. Supplied the incorrect material. The mistake was not the issue, it’s the fact that their attitude was not to make any discount or to deliver the correct product absolving any responsibility for their error, and hence costing me two visits to obtain the correct product. I went to Pinus Sawmills in the end, whom are cheaper, and included in their price is no charge delivery anyway. Pinus Sawmills have made a mistake with delivery which is fine, especially when they were quite  happy to deliver the correct product, not at my expence. I will never buy from WR Engineering again. Very happy with Pinus Sawmills.

I wouldn’t recommend JPK Fencing.

I rang for a quote and was cut off mid sentence and told as I already had the colorbond material, they weren’t interested. I guess they weren’t able to fleece me as much as they would have liked. I would have paid a fair labour amount.

Stratco have fence panels (colourbond) for $85 per panel (1.8m high x 2.4m long).

We recently had a great experience with John from JPK Fencing: http://jpkfencing.com.au/index.html. His price was nearly half that of some of the quotes we got, he turned up promptly, communicated effectively and installation was quality. I would definitely recommend him.

Conversely, I had a good experience with Jim’s Fencing – I understand it’s a franchise so it probably depends which JF person you get, but I can recommend the guy who does the Chisholm area. I wanted the fence on one side of a courtyard replaced and asked that it match an adjacent ‘fence top’ on a brick wall. (I live in a govvie but ACT Housing would not fix that piece of fencing -they reckoned it was still OK and were only prepared to send someone to bang a few more nails into the rotting timber). JF dude was very helpful with suggestions/alternatives that would work, and was punctual and efficient. I was also happy with the quote and the final result!

Avoid Jim’s Fencing. The job at my house was so poor that part of the fence collapsed. JF refused to respond to numerous calls and emails, was verbally and physically aggressive, and the franchisee left Canberra after a number of unhappy clients lodged action in the Small Claims Tribunal.

If the old fence is a hard wood one, and if they’re willing to cut it up and take it away, maybe you could offer it free to someone with a wood fire.

Richard Crossman 0417693201 did our front fence and gate. Did a very good job. Arranged supply, removal etc. He come back and rehung one of the gate panels which had to be repaired because of damage sustained in transport.

If you’re looking for materials only, Dunn & Farrugia sell panels (1.8m H x 2.4m W) for $89 (so that’s about $37/m), which seems like a good price.

The going prices for install supply and removal of old fence seemed to be around $100/m but I’m not sure if those prices are good or inflated because I’ve heard the prices interstate can be down to around $65/m. Obviously workmanship may have something to do with it but the price different is significant.

Bah…just read this properly, and realised that you need supply only, so my last reply won’t help at all!

I bought materials from WR Engineering, but I’m not sure I’d buy though them again. I’m not sure they’re the cheapest around, and they’ve done work at my mother in law’s place recently that was quite dodgy – so it’s more a moral standpoint than anything.
