A call from a member of the public has assisted police in the arrest of five men early this morning (Thursday, June 9).
About 1.20am police attended an address in MacCarthur after a report of a damaged vehicle and items stolen from the vehicle at that address. A few minutes later a similar incident was reported a few streets away, with details of a red Ford Laser seen leaving the area.
Police located a vehicle in Banks matching the description, and conducted a traffic stop. As police approached the vehicle they noticed some items that had earlier been reported as stolen, inside the vehicle. The five male occupants of the vehicle were arrested and taken to the Tuggeranong Police Station.
Officer in charge of the Tuggeranong Police Station, Sergeant Rod Anderson said this latest incident highlights the need for the public and police to work together to solve crimes.
“The fact that a member of the public called police because they saw something suspicious, led to the arrest of these five men and potentially stopped other crimes being committed. This is also a reminder to all motorists to secure their vehicles and not to leave valuables inside,” he said.
Police are continuing enquiries and are appealing for members of the public to report any similar incidents as this may assist with this investigation.
