Nature is healing. Live music is back.
Smith’s Alternative is leading the charge with their Spring Series. It’s a collection of intimate afternoon shows programmed to gently reintroduce us to some of the city’s most beloved artists. It all kicks off this weekend with sets from singer-songwriter Evan Buckley’s project The Burley Griffin and brass fusion outfit Brass Knuckle Brass Band.
Online shows are not a thing of the past, however. Curating virtual music spaces allows everyone to access gigs on a level playing field. While one would expect in-person events to become the dominant gig format, keeping online offerings strong is an important step in carving out a more accessible music scene.
The Delta Sessions are carrying that torch with weekly online gigs populating Facebook feeds on Monday nights from 6:00 pm. The series involves a handful of venues as hosts and more than a dozen local acts.
Week by week, we can expect venues to keep growing the number of gigs on offer. In the meantime, be sure to book ahead or pre-purchase tickets where you can as venues continue to deal with lower than usual capacities and strict patron limits.
