A staple of the Canberra food scene for over 30 years, Sammy’s Kitchen has closed its Civic doors permanently.
In a message to the community posted on the front window of the Bunda Street restaurant, the Civic iteration of Sammy’s Kitchen has said its final goodbyes.
“Sammy’s Kitchen Civic is permanently closed. We are grateful for your strong support over the years. Please continue to support our other outlet, Sammy’s @ the Foreshore at 39 Eastlake Parade, Kingston. Thank you very much for your continuous support, and look forward to seeing you again,” read the message.
Rumours circulated that the Chinese and Malaysian restaurant faced a permanent closure late in 2021. Yesterday an online post was flooded with tributes for the outgoing Canberra favourite as those fears were realised.
Fans of the restaurant declared their love for what one commenter described as “one of the best restaurants in Canberra”, suggesting the impact on daily traffic from the pandemic and working from home may have contributed to the closure.
Booking at the Kingston restaurant can be made on their website.
