+1, friend’s grandparents go there and have nothing bad to say about Kingston club.

The main club is in Deakin. They have the most players and sessions. You will be able to find a session that matches your skill level. This is the place you will want to be if you decide to take the game seriously and want to compete at the highest levels.

If you are under 26 the Deakin club will be able to put you onto the youth bridge organisers. They run various events, including the national championships in Canberra in January. You may like to meet some of them even if you are a little older than 26 as the bridge community at large is generally much older than this.

There are smaller clubs that play around Canberra. They tend to have a more social approach and play less frequently. You will find a larger mix of playing standards. The advantages will be proximity and possibly lower fees.

The other option is the Grand Slam centre in Kingston. I have not been there but have heard good reports. I understand that they offer a more upmarket environment, table service for coffee and such, with a commensurately higher playing fee. I also understand that they are independent of the “establishment” and don’t participate in the masterpoint scheme. This may or may not be an issue for you.
