You may have oversimplified the security aspect. Its not a matter of of some sort of Obaminator striding the halls with a plasma rifle. Plus the logistics of having the staff of 20 or so Heads of State scattered around Canberra and trying to get them to meetings would be very painful. Why do it all if we are going to be amateur about it?

G20?

Would we see the serious rioting of, say, London?

Do we have the police strength and training to deal with this?

I doubt it.

Don’t worry about the Feds they train all the time. I ran into them training the other day, it scared the sh** out of me. I went for a fang on my ZX14r MB the other day and I was just cruising around central, thought I’d ride around the circle at New Parliament house to see if there were any protests or hot Swedish tourist chicks – I came around the corner just past the guards booth and there were approx 10 AFP cops on their motorbikes with a drill sergeant at their flank, they had their lights on and the backs of the bikes were diagonally to the curb ready to launch. Here I am, stereotype of the lone speedlimit smasher coming around the corner, they all turned their heads to look at me and a little bit of wee came out. All I could do was try to act cool and timidly wave. LOL. They train all right.

Given the chance any head of state’s intelligence service might try to play silly buggers with another’s mobile phone though (to use but one example springing to mind).

I agree it would be nice if world leaders were able to bunk down in billets like a visiting group of rotarians.

But that’s not the world we live in.

20 heads of state are going to need a big city with a big infrastructure.

It’s not as if this meeting is habitually held in national capitals anyway.

Pittsburgh? No. Toronto? No. Cannes? No. Los Cabos? No.

Looking at the list there seems to be a definite trend away from holding it in capital cities.

And if Ottawa wasn’t up to it then we shouldn’t get silly about it.
