The Greens’ Shane Rattenbury has announced he’s going to try and amend the liquor laws to give licensees fair warning of changes to their fees:
The amendment will require that pubs and clubs be given a minimum of three months notice if the Government plans to change their annual licence fee.
“This is a common sense change to the law that says you need to give business fair notice of any new fees, instead of waiting until the final weeks before the due date,” Mr Rattenbury said.
“The amendment is borne out of two years of frustration for the industry where last minute notice has been given of the new fee arrangements.
“Business needs more than a handful of weeks to budget and plan for the year ahead. This is especially the case when significant changes are announced, as occurred the last two years.
“In 2010 businesses were given six weeks notice of what fees they had to pay and last year it was three weeks, so the problem is getting worse not better”, Mr Rattenbury said.
