Police need our help to find an inmate who escaped from a prison in Cooma.
James White was last seen at the minimum-security correctional facility at about 4:40 pm on Monday (17 July).
A Corrective Services NSW spokesperson said the prison alerted police as soon as they realised he had gone missing.
“The 21-year-old was unaccounted for during evening muster at approximately 7 pm,” they said.
It’s understood he was being held at Area 2, colloquially known as ‘The Farm’, which is situated outside of Cooma itself.
The minimum security area is generally for people nearing the end of their sentences, and functions as a ‘step down’ for inmates preparing to re-enter society.
As such they aren’t under as heavy supervision as they would be in other prison populations.
James White is described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, of light build, between 165 cm and 170 cm tall, with black hair.
He was last seen wearing a hi-vis orange jacket, light-coloured shirt and shorts.
It’s believed James White may be travelling to Guildford or Sydney.
Anyone who sees him has been urged not to approach him, but to contact Triple Zero (000) immediately.
More to come.
