ACT Policing is investigating a burglary at the Bing Lee store in Fyshwick, in which an estimated $50 000 of camera equipment was stolen.

Around 10.25pm on Monday (August 6), two offenders entered the store on Barrier Street through the roof of the building, and entered a secure room containing cameras and associated equipment.

The two offenders stole approximately $50 000 worth of camera equipment from the store, and CCTV footage shows the offenders leaving the scene in a white van.

Anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity near the Bing Lee store in Fyshwick on Monday night is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.

I’d dare say that unless that van is stolen, the culprits shouldn’t be too hard to hunt down. There aren’t too many of those Kia pieces of shit around the place.. I’m sure the police could run a pretty short list out of the rego database and go knocking on some doors…

From what I have heard, it was executed like a diamond heist. It’s a concern that Fyshwick still has a lot of crime. Only a few days ago, there was also another large theft, which was of high-end bicycles in Fyshwick.

Maybe they should scope out some of the dodgy operations going around in fyshwick… what better than to have a hideout right there in the middle of it. At least, seems a nice plot to me.

What’s with security cameras these days still being rubbish?

Probably not – It looks like a Kia Pregio – worst P.O.S ever. A few contractors at work use them for deliveries, and they have constant mechanical problems.

Come to think of it, the head contractor had a Pregio as a spare van, and it recently disappeared.

They sell all grades of digital camera gear, but all we see is a blury van photo, or are the feds hanging onto better stuff.

Give the pic to the CSI team!
Not only will they be able to zoom and sharpen the image to see the number plate, but we’ll be able to see a clear reflection of the perp’s face in the passenger mirror – as well as usable fingerprints on the door handle! hahahaha!

From what I’ve been told, police are concerned about the nature of this theft due to the bypassing of several security measures, as well as the bypassing of secure locks. There could have also had been the possibility of knowledge ascertained by those who have had access to the roofing system before, such as installers, as the acquirement of goods was rather precise. Bing Lee seemed to have what would be considered to be reasonable security for such goods. As a business owner in Fyshwick, it’s unfortunate that crime hasn’t gone away after such a long time. I think there needs to be a different approach taken to secure and police Fyshwick. Including public CCTV cameras to monitor vehicles coming in and out of Fyshwick.

Just park your car as close to the brothel as you can, that way any attempted robbery/car jacking is limited from the time you pull up your pants, to the time you enter your vehicle.

It’s ironic really. I’m sure any of the cameras that were stolen could have taken a better picture of the getaway van than their antiquated CCTV managed to.

Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii Lift Bing Leeeeeeee!!!

I wonder how many fairly straight original model Kia Pregios with roofracks there are getting around…?

entered a secure room containing cameras

“Secure” by which definition?

This van looks a bit flasher than the ordinary.

Two separate roof bars, diferent from the usual ladder bars.
What appear to be flash hubcaps/mags.
A very serious rear bumper, usually the domain of ex-telstra vans.
Something strange hanging down from the fuel filler.

I hope some van spotters are out watching 🙂

Everything’s negotiable… even the store’s security.

$50k might be a lot of stuff if they are the lower end of the market (half decent point-and-shoot cameras are pretty cheap not) or only a few if they are they higher end of the market (with nice lenses).

I’d be interested to know, as the dollar amount does not tell us much.

Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii love Bingggggggggggggg Leeeeeeeeeeeeeee…
