The Band Broke Up - Part the second

Seeing the knitter doing her thing brought a wee smile to my face.

Bells, normally I do. Today I was feeling a little sick, fragile and self-conscious — it’s an very muchly extremely rare condition!

Overheard, you should ask. It’ll be a hoot. My knitting friends all call me Bells so maybe if you ask, and it’s not me, they’ll at least know who you’re talking about. 🙂

I knit in public ALL the time. You’re bound to be right one of the times you ask.

Ben’s song on mental health issues means that tomorrow I WILL pull my finger out and type up my Mental Health Week story (a gig where, quite coincidentally, Ben was MC-ing).

And Sanji’s (not Sanjeev’s as I’d been saying earlier — I might be 42, but he’s not a Kumar at No. 42) — Sanji’s song about his kids firmed my resolve to burn what is going to be a HUGE weekend of local gigs and local (read: Queanbeyan) festivalling and go chill with my kids on the coast.

She’s cool, but I won’t post any identifying comments here. At Relay for Life, you’re keeping some pretty weird hours so it’s good to have all manner of folk to yak to. “The knitter” from last night was one of those people I chatted to, probably walking around the track at 2am holding a [baton description withheld — boom boom — so as not to reveal my main employer].

Now, dragging this back on topic sort of kind of, the Cancer Council ACT are sometimes on the hunt for local musos who are willing to go and do a set for gratis at this event. Link to event is here: http://www.actcancer.org/fundraising-events/default.aspx?id=3 It’s great exposure to hundreds of people who are spending 24 hours circumnavigating a 400m running track and looking for distraction and entertainment. The clientele are skewed towards the young and hip (plus to a lesser degree the young at heart and hip replacement).

Sadly, I’ve not been involved with the event for a couple of years due to other commitments (end of wedding season when it’s on plus it butts up against the National Folk Festival), but it might be worth a call to the Cancer Council and thrust your name in front of the fund-raising selectors. A couple of years ago, I would have said, ‘Tell ’em that Overheard sent you’, but these days there would just be the telephonic equivalent of a blank stare into the middle distance.

And finally right back OT, Bells, I skimmed your comment and dead set read the last bit as: ‘not by a long stitch!’

There was a knitter at The Front today and I was trying to work up the gumption to ask her, ‘Are you…?’ but every now and again (only rarely) a little angelic Overheard sits on my left shoulder and whispers, ‘Oi! Numnuts! You don’t have to talt to EVERYONE on the planet!’

It was cool that she showed up!

Yay, the knitter!! I wish I went. *sigh*
