I knew McDougall also, McDougall always used to say how he adored Julie, he thought she was wonderful and this is what he did to her. It will not be over for the families as it could take at least two years as he has pleaded not guilty so we won’t be moving on with our lives and will never ever forget, I think about Julie and Straun several times in a day, every day

I was wondering this because I know Scott and know a bit about his past etc.. Not sure how he is feeling about the situation, I guess only he really knows that.

This is not what normal people do even if they are drunk. Lets hope that justice is carried out.

I think its just so sad and my heart also goes out to the family and friends, I hope they can try and move on with their lives. Things like this should not happen and there is no reasonable excuse for it.

Again, no one deserves to die this way.

This is just my opinion as I have been reading up on psychopaths, as he has always been violent, it goes back when he was a child, if you read on another blog someone has mentioned that he had treatment for his temper when he was a child, he has been violent to most of his girlfriends eg: Donna, and stabbed a guy in the neck in Queensland and did three years for manslaghter, he had only been out of prison six weeks when he murdered Julie and Straun, and 10 days in Canberra, Julie would have seen him only three times I think when he arrived in Canberra. He can’t be charged with intoxication as the laws have changed in Canberra, he wasn’t playing whats the time Mr Wolf over and over again for nothing a few hours before he murdered Jules and Straun,

I am Julie’s sister & thank you to those of you who
have had nice comments about Julie & Straun on some blogs on Riot.

Masquara, Julie left the industry some years ago & I can assure you this terrible
tragedy has no involvement with the sex working industry that so many are referring to.

This creature had only been back in the ACT for 11 days & Julie had no contact with him for 4 years. Yes he did make contact with Julie upon his return to Canberra, however this wasnt a person that Julie had been having regular contact with or involved in anything illegal, he was simply an old friend of Julie’s of 20years, since they were teenagers. Who would expect an old friend to do something so horrific to someone that he adored so much & this was publicly known as he often told people she was a beautiful person inside & out.

This murder has nothing to do with drugs or anything of the sort, what you read in the Canberra times is incorrect from the reporter Noel. Simply it was somone who got out of control in a frenzy drunken rage, not related to drugs. I cannot go into any further details due to legal reasons however I do ask that before being so quick to judge please wait unitl all details are released to the public as to what occured & how these two innocent victims were so horrifically murdered.

Straun & Julie did not deserve their lives to come to such a horrible end like this – If you didn’t know Julie/Straun whilst they were alive you certainly don’t have any right to be making such judgements now. As someone else posted on the ‘ Downer Murders ‘ blog, ironically & characteristicly Julie would have accepted much of the critism aimed at her, however she isn’t here to defend herself & it is unfair for anyone to make such judgements on her.

Julie was fun, witty, full of life & lit up a room when she entered it as the statement was released by our family when it was announced Julie was the un-identified female from the Downer murders. She was loving, a loyal friend to so many and a loving sister who will be so sadly missed & also by her only nephew who adored her so much & she adored him so much.

For anyone on this site I think its best that comments where people are writing who are un-informed of what took place to wait until all legal proceedings are over. Everything will be released then.

Some people on this site are not hijacking a tragedy to make it about themselves. A few people on this site have valid reasons to defend Julie & Straun. There are a few people that have spoken the truth & the police are well aware of this.

To me Julie will always remain forever in my heart, the loved & cherished memories from our childhood together & growing up will always be a special & no matter what horrible comments are written on any site only those that were close to Julie will ever know the real Juie & the truth. I was never ashamed of the business Julie was involved in some years ago, neither was she, Julie was open & honest unlike many other people are in life. She truly had a heart of gold.

Julie had many friends from all walks of life & was so well respected & loved by those that new her. She had the most beautiful send off funeral & had so many loved ones there to celebrate her life & farewell her.

Sadly people find it entertaining to connect her murder with her being involved in her past working history however this is not the case.

The driver & Ruby red have not exagerated about this size of this creature – From when I met him over 15 years ago he was not a big person however since working out in a QLD jail yes he is quite big now & will only get bigger as he is also working out in the remand centre. I guess he has no choice as when he is finally sentanced he will need all the help he can get.

As for the Canberra times so far many sentances that have been written have been incorrect. It was myself who Creature yelled at & I can only presume that was because I knew him many years ago when he dated someone I know & also he knew how close Julie & I were, I guess I touched a sore spot by being there as yelled out very loud and agressively in the court room for no reason. No family member cursed him on 3rd Oct that was someone else in the court room. I believe the family of both Julie & Straun have remained calm throughout all court appearances, it is upsetting to say the least when you have to sit in the same room as the creature who murdered our loved ones, not allegedlly he did murder them both.

I have only posted this on this site after hearing from many some of the posts that have been made & have posted my post to clear up some rumours.

Julie & Straun are in a peaceful place now & my only wish is that this creature is sentanced so no other persons have their lives taken away in such a horrible way such as our loved ones were & no other family has to go through the saddness that our families have had to go through and are still going through.

This is just so shocking and very sad! This has had a ripple effect on allot of people.

I can’t imagine the pain of losing one of my family members. It doesn’t get any worse than this. I can not get my head around why?

The system works like this: At the commital hearing that was stated in the Canberra times as being set for most likely mid 2009 all evidence, forensic, wittnesses will be displayed. So far monster has been charged with murder & arson in this crime (not including all the other crimes he has just been charged with due to his DNA being found from this murder from crimes he committed back in 2004/2005. Then monster will put his defence forward, ie if he will keep his same plea of not guilty, change it to guilty or plead down the insanity path.

Not guilty plea – The judge determines if there is enough evidence to proceed forward to supreme court for trial & this would mean monster has a choice of jury or I could be wrong here but DDP.

Guilty – If changes plea to guilty it will then just proceed straight to supreme court for sentancing.

Insanity – Then goes down mental health path. He will see a psychiatrist & have his story put forward how he is insane/DDP on other side will have pscyhiatrist too & it will up to the judge to determine if he is fit to plead on trial at supreme court or if insane be sentanced to a institution attached to a jail.

Taking all into consideration his last prison sentance in QLD he was found fit to plead & did plead not guilty but was charged with manslaughter & served 30months in a QLD jail.

That is my understanding of the legal system, if wrong please correct me.

Ian – Couldnt agree with you more. If you are sent to jail for something minor not violent and made a genuine mistake even such as a traffic offence, stealing. I believe in rehabilitation, ie letting the person improve themself with education, gym etc. They deserve a chance.

However if you have been clearly found guilty of such a serious offence such as murder no privliges should be allowed. If monster is found to have murdered these two innocents persons as so far it is pointing that way with him being charged with murder, lighting a fire well then he should receive not anything in jail. He should be provided with basics to start a fire as seems good at that, Food to survive should be a stick with a rat on the end for him to have his sunday roast & the urine of a rat for him to drink.
Alcatraz – type of jail sentance for those that are found guilty of committing such horrible crimes.

I will be really cranky if this person is found to be guilty, sent to Canberra jail where they have a big art area in there ready for prisoners – Why should tax payers money pay to support such evil people. As a tax payer I would be happy to pay for the electric chair to save all tax payers money instead of supporting monsters for the next 50 years of their lives if they are found guilty of any such offence as this double homocide.

Taking into consideration here the innocent victims have been given a life sentance so why even should this monster be given any chances if forensic evidence clearly shows he did it. And I am talking here about all murders not just this one if forensic evidence shows a person committed a murder they should lose all rights. Forensic evidence is just not about proving someone was there at the scene with DNA samples all types of forensic evidence comes into it. Such as piecing the scene together, movements, everything.

He has been charged with murder by police a few hours after the incident but is pleading not guilty like most people who commit serious offences do to get a reduced sentance. Its that simple.

This pisses me off. Why do we give prisoners access to gym equipment etc? I don’t want jails turning out fit, muscly strongman criminals – I want them releasing spindly weaklings unable to even lift a jemmy or whatever tool of their trade is.

The evidence does not point to murder suicide. Ghosts can’t light fires. Bagging murder victims shows a lack of manners and decency.

Continued displays of public grief can seem odd, when we don,t know who the contributors really are.

As all RA readers know, the trial is just the bit before the inadequate sentencing is given.

You have no idea what it feels like to come face to face with the evil monster who murderd, a friend, daughter or son, you feel like belting him, the shock of seeing the evil monster who murdered a loved one, you can’t take your eyes off the animal, you can’t imagine why it came to this, so horiffic were the murders, you ask yourself why why!
The evil monster is not talking but the forensic evidence will tell some of the story.

Yes I agree let the justice system take it from here – He is not still being held in custody for no reason, not this long obviously they have serious evidence against him. To then set the house on fire after clearly shows he was trying to cover evidence. If he wont do the talking the forensic evidence will speak for him as someone else stated on a previous post. As long as he is not walking the streets who cares what happens to him just keep him out of the community so we are all safe.

No matter what industry anyone works in there are murderers from all walks of life & that is where the focus should be to keep them off our streets not aimed at peoples line of work, there are good and bad people in all workplaces.

If he was found early hours of the morning in his car as stated and charged with murder police had to have had enough evidence then to charge him.

From what I hear he did not have hand cuffs on in the court room, hopefully next time he has hand cuffs on and a chain attached to his feet to he cannot latch out at the victims familes. Everyone has the right to a fair hearing, interesting to see how this one goes? I don’t think anyone has ‘rubbished’ Jules. I’d venture to say (at considerable risk to my cyber-person!) though, that people who don’t engage with the sex industry or hard drugs are many times less likely to encounter this sort of trouble. Perhaps that will inform some people who are considering dabbling in Canberra’s seamy underbelly (and nb Fiona Patten, who is NOT involved in sex advocacy in the interests of a liberated sexual life for people, but for purely commercial reasons, so there’s no point mounting an argument with me on the merits of sexual liberation in the same paragaph as Patten) and they might think twice.
