Winter in Canberra is looking anything but dreary with a brand new arts and entertainment venue, The Vault, launching a wild lineup of events.

Located at Fyshwick’s Dairy Road precinct in a warehouse formerly used to store beer kegs, The Vault will be transformed into the hottest destination for culture, cuisine and debaucherous fun over Winter before the space is redeveloped and the warehouse demolished.

Cultural development company Dionysus is behind the transformation, and fans of its work will recognise its highly curated style.

Curator and founder of Dionysus Dave Caffrey says that this ambitious program will support Canberra’s vibrant cultural landscape.

“The Vault has been curated with world-class experiences,” he said.

“Hidden in the Dairy Road precinct, The Vault will heat Canberra’s Winter with markets, performances and warehouse parties until it is demolished. We are hoping it will be a highlight in Canberra’s cultural memory and inform future programs.”

Highlights of the program include a weekend roller disco, skateboarding residency, immersive theatre and contemporary dance works, DJ crew battles and parties that will run through the night. However, parents of young kids will be more excited to hear about the parties that run during the day.

“We all know people who used to love going out to parties, but then they had kids, and they don’t get to do that anymore. So we’re having a dance party for families!” Dave explained at the launch event.

The Bangin’ Beats and Bubbles party will feature a lower-decibel sound system (to protect little ears) and a bar menu with red cordial and Skittles!

At the other end of the spectrum, Canberra cult-favourite burlesque partiers Sound and Fury will host an adults-only Carnal Art Party on 15 June, which promises to be an “unforgettable journey into the heart of performance art”.

In addition to immersive art experiences, The Vault will also host several food markets over Winter, starting with the Oozy Boozy cheese and wine market on the King’s Birthday Long Weekend. Think melted raclette on salami from Le Cheeserie with a glass of shiraz from local Canberra wineries by the fire. This ticketed event will feature a rotation of wineries over the weekend, so stay tuned for more details.

On July 28, The Vault will partner with The Truffle Festival and Southern Harvest Association to put on a Winter Market full of local produce, drinks and truffles!

Other events in August include partnerships with Sydney-based queer party starters Heaps Gay, psychedelic festival Dragon Dreaming, and local art collectives Sunburn and Turning Tables.

The warehouse space is the perfect blank canvas for projections, lights and soundscapes, and this curated program will use it to its maximum potential. With the Dionysus team at the helm, you can be sure that there will be some memorable nights (and days!) ahead.

The Vault is located at Dairy Road, Fyshwick. For more event details, visit the Vault’s website or follow them on Instagram.

Good grief!

None of this is accessible to those without cars as there’s no public transport to get there.
