A new conservation strategy

By johnboy - 8 August 2013 5

Simon Corbell has announced he’s signed off on a new Nature Conservation Strategy:

The strategy has a strong ‘people focus’ that recognises the key role that the community plays in nature conservation in the ACT. Actions include:

— community education campaigns on priority conservation issues such as managing the urban/bushland edge, and understanding the impacts of climate change on biodiversity;

— building Indigenous engagement in natural resource management;

— encouraging the involvement of young Canberrans in nature based education;

— supporting appropriate recreational and tourism use of natural areas; and

— continuing to develop collaborative partnerships across government, community and the private sector.

I can’t really think of any public lands that the public is locked out of. Vehicles locked out of, sure, but not people.

Yeah, plenty of restricted access Crown land in NSW and other states but is there any in the ACT?

When the public is you Grimm it begins to sound like the sensible course.

Does any of this strategy include unlocking the areas they have locked up for no real reason? Or stopping this nonsense of locking the public out of public lands?

I took part in the consultation process for this at least four years ago. I’m stunned it has taken this long.

Still give the ACTGOV some credit, at least they took care of the pressing firework licensing issue before attending to less important issues such as this.
