If Mondayitis has you dragging your feet the team from Mondayitis Cabaret may well have the cure for what ails you; and this cure all comes with an explosion of feathers, rhinestones and whole lot of local talent!
Launched on the 30th April 2012 Mondayitis Cabaret is a fringe night spanning genres from burlesque to ballroom and comedy to cabaret; begun by local burlesque performer Chocolate e Claire to give local performers a venue to display their talents and to raise funds for the ACT Domestic Violence Crisis Service. Their first show sold out and after a few technical difficulties was a great success.
“I wanted to create an event that anyone could perform at and the kind of event that I would want to attend.” Says founder and artistic director Chocolate e Claire “There is such a wealth of talent in Canberra it seemed silly to have to travel to Sydney and Melbourne to see an event like this or to perform in one. I put on the first Mondayitis with nothing but my mobile phone and a Facebook event invitation and the response was amazing. Performers donated their time and talents and the audience cheered. It was really exciting”
After a short period of rest and reflection and with an expanded team including technical staff and a production manager on board Mondayitis Cabaret is back bigger and better than before. Held at Kremlin Bar and Tapas on Northbourne Avenue Mondayitis Cabaret is an after work drink with a difference.
“Kremlin bar is the perfect location for an event like this,” explains production manager Ivy Ambrosia “It has exactly the right atmosphere and the cocktails are fantastic. We could not do this the way we do if it were not for the generosity of Kremlin Bar who allows us to have their venue free on a Monday night. They’re even wonderful enough to create themed cocktails for some our events which adds just a touch more fabulous to the proceedings”
Mondayitis Cabaret has launched their next event ‘Secret Lives’ for Monday August 13th to a fantastic response. Hosted by production manager and local burlesque performer Ivy Ambrosia and with a line up including local burlesque and drag performers, musicians, singers and pole dancers it’s promising to be a great night with a little something for everyone.
“We can’t wait for our next event,” says Chocolate e Claire “The response has been even better than before. The line-up has a great variety of performers from all kinds of performance backgrounds; the only thing missing is circus and we are working on that! This will be a fantastic night out for anyone looking for something a little bit different. There is even some audience participation in this show but we can’t let the cat out of the bag just yet. Tickets are available online and given the amount of interest we’ve had so far, they may not be available at the door!”
Mondayitis Cabaret presents ‘Secret Lives’ at Kremlin Bar and Tapas who have generously donated their venue for the night. It is also being supported by Photox and Gig Pigs Photography.
Tickets are $10 + $1.59 booking fee through eventbrite and $12 at the door. The door staff will also be accepting donations to the ACT Domestic Violence Crisis service on the night.
