ACT Liberal promises to audit public school infrastructure

The ACT Opposition Leader and Shadow Education Minister, Zed Seselja and Steve Doszpot, have made their own election promise: a Canberra Liberals Government would hold a $250,000 public school infrastructure audit.

Doszpot accused ACT Labor of neglecting government schools to the extent of leaving Taylor Primary “so poorly maintained that it couldn’t be used.” (The school was closed in March, with the ACT Government pledging $13 million to repair it in May).

“Under ACT Labor, Canberrans have been left with a government that is forever playing catch up with infrastructure delivery and maintenance. We know residents deserve a Government that gets infrastructure right from the start and plans for the future,” Mr Seselja said.

Our Infrastructure Canberra policy would see the appointment of an independent Infrastructure Commissioner, backed by a board, to ensure government projects are on time, on budget, and in the best interest of taxpayers.”

Every public school in Canberra could use some basic maintenance… many need much more.

All any politician need do is visit the working areas of any public school (not the tarted-up public areas) and see the conditions that our kids and the staff of the schools work in, to see the real story.

This.

And if Taylor suffered massive water damage then yes, it was poorly maintained.

What about the brand new buildings that were flodded? New houses? shopping centres?

Are you saying they were all badly maintained?

When its rain like that, some gutters just cannopt handle the load. It has nothing to do with maintenance.

Liberals have a greeeeat track record when it comes to education.

Taylor was in no way poorly maintained. It had a huge refurb done on it in the last few years. It got massive water damage in the crazy rains and huge amounts of asbestos were found.
Gotta love blatant lies…

“Our Infrastructure Canberra policy would see the appointment of an independent Infrastructure Commissioner, backed by a board, to ensure government projects are on time, on budget, and in the best interest of taxpayers.”
So, the Liberals are basically saying that if elected, they will spend a quarter of a million to create a job for one of their own and assorted comrades, rather than invest the money into an actual school.
– Labor has already pledged $13 million to repair the school, which was required not due to neglect, but because of it’s age [you can’t replace structural timber beams as part of a maintenance procedure]. These Liberal clowns haven’t put much sugar on this promise at all, I’ll stick to the ones actually “doing” something about it rather than someone who will look at the problem for several years and waste money on paperwork and salaries.
