ACT Seniors Card Website

The ACT govt has put out this media release on the set up of the ACT Seniors Card website detailing all the benefits and concessions available for seniors.

Now I think its a wonderful idea to promote these benefits but I have a couple of problems with the method. Simply put there are a lot of seniors who don’t use the internet, so they won’t be able to access it. And those older grownups who do use the internet (like my parents) you would never even think of calling them seniors, and they wouldn’t use the card even if you gave it to them. A better way of promoting the Seniors Card benefits would be to have posters or broshures in doctors offices.

I would have to agree with Che, it seems that somebody somewhere is not earning their money. The “let’s make a web-site – that’ll shut up the little SOBs” mentality of the gov’t (both local and federal are guilty), has and will continue to ostracize various parts of the community who do not have access and/or do not know how to use the web.

It seems that once again logic may have escaped the powers that be. An advertising campaign on day-time TV (during Bert etc) would also be a great place to start. As an additional option some posters could be made available to various retail outlets such as Chemists, Supermarkets and Garden Centres – this would have to increase exposure.
