ADSL in Gunghalin

Hi all,

I am new to this website, this is fantastic for Canberra residents! Love it.

I recently purchased a house in Ngunnawal and have so far been unable to move my ADSL connection to my new house. Prior to moving I knew of the issues of ADSL in Gunghalin but was under the impression that it had been fixed. I have been told by Telstra and my internet provider that I am looking at a November connection. I have spoken to a couple of people who have told me that they keep putting off the dates all the time and not to hold my breath.

I have tried communicating with the local Telstra Country Wide office without too much success.

I am intersted in finding other people with this same problem whether it be in Gunghlin or anywhere else in Canberra, power in numbers.

Please respond here and lets see what we can do.

Welcome ALL to the Malfunction Junction. I was first advised about ADSL being available to [ at least my part of Gungahlin / AMAROO ] in early December (according to the TELSTRA Rep I was the second person called to this now avalable technology. I had many calls from diferent telco’s about plans and Broadband proir to this date but was told ‘not in your area yet’ My reply was ‘first to provide Broadband is the winner for my business’. Since then I have had unknown calls from all [incl the oh no deli.com } and sundry, incl oh yes ~ TELSTRA, that Broadband is available in our area WOW!!! …. TOO LATE … I’m connected, but strange as it may seem when I was informed about ADSL being available (December 2K4) I told everyone I knew within a radius of 300 meters of the “Mushroom Headquarters” about ADSL in the area and from this is many a story (ref matt_gunghalin)about getting it on. best wishes to all ~ The Chief Mushroom.

I was the original poster on this. Strangely enough a week after posting this I got a txt from my ISP saying I was live with ADSL. I rang to confirm as I thought no way too good to be true. Yes all up and running. So when I got home sure enough it was working. A week later I got a call back from Telstra Country Wide getting back to me to follow through on a commitment to lend me a wireless modem. I told him I had broadband and didnt require it. He was very surprised. I have since found out that its because my ISP had a disconnect that made a port available. Apparently November to fix all the issues is still on track.

For the geeks out there, I got service when Telstra and Transact couldn’t provide, ended up with Dodo 🙂

I have had 3 applications for broadband, 2 telstra 1 transact, all where unable to supply a connection, i was messed around for over 9weeks as they said i’d have to wait 4wks for a tech, only to ring back and be told ‘sorry we should have got back to you we cant connect you’. we’ll i have broadband now and its wireless harvey norman sell a veritel system $199 modem, $125 connection and an isp fee $? no contract!! it works out more expensive at first but equales out over time and all in less than a day.

Well, I’ll respond by informing you that I got ADSL in Reid within a week of applying, and you deserve the same level of service in Gungahlin.
I have a friend near Bungendore who was able to get it within a few weeks of applying, so if they can get it right out there….

I’m surprised (okay, not that surprised) to hear that it’s still a problem in parts of Gungahlin – we had difficulties 8 months or so ago in Amaroo, but by most accounts this suburb is now sorted.

One group you might want to check, if you haven’t already, are the Gungahlin Community Council: info@gcc.asn.au – last newsletter they put out (which was a while back now), they were quite interested in hearing from people in your position.

Best of luck – if 2 months is all you end up waiting, you’re still better off than a lot of people out here have been.

You may also want to, if you haven’t already, check if you can get iBurst signal where you are. Saves waiting for Telstra to get off their backsides.
