Armed Guards for Duntroon

I worked at ADFA for a few years in the late ’80s so my knowledge is way out of date…however…

ADFA and RMC are both primarily teaching institutions. Most of the military staff are (or at least were) genuine hardboys who You Would Not Want To Fuck With. The student body on the other hand, range from first years who usually can’t tell shit from clay, up to final years who…umm…can regularly distinguish shit from clay.

In any case, AFAIK the diggers on the staff and the students generally don’t carry weapons, and when they do it’s for ceremonial purposes, so there are no crackers in sight. This prevents the students from accidentally shooting each other, and the staff from shooting the students out of frustration.

Things may be changing, but I’d say that right now ANU is just as well equipped to fight off an attack as ADFA or RMC.

I should also add that I’ve subsequently worked with many graduates from both institutions and they’re generally extremely impressive and capable people. It just takes a bit of real world experience to knock them into shape.

Always thought it was odd that anyone could just drive into Duntroon.

ummmm JB, where exactly are the Hollingsworth Barracks??? Or are you thinking of the planned attack on Holsworthy Barracks in Sydney??
