Asbestos removal?

By ozmackem - 17 August 2009 9

Anyone reccomend a firm that will remove asbestos from our home?

There’s a few places listed in the yellow pages, but with the dodgy nature of the material and with a small child’s bedroom being across a corridor from one of the rooms needing to be done I thought I’d ask here to see if anyone else had needed the same expertise and could point us in the right direction of someone we could trust to do it right.

As far as we know there are 3 smallish rooms that have floor tiles laid on top of asb. so the tiles and asb. need to come up together.

What’s Your opinion?

@canberratowie2

I wouldn’t dream of passing judgement on one’s comments. Nonetheless… You claim he’s rude etc but then make a claim re double wrapping asbestos.

That’s funny, coz:

– “never seen him…” – how much asbestos have you had removed to claim any observation of his work with any authority? Surely if the man was the rudest you’d ever met you’d not continue to hire him, right?

– most people aren’t allowed to be within the removal area. Double wrapped? Is that as opposed to single wrapped? Hell – knowing the terminology and/or requirement in the first place is interesting, isn’t it…?

Sour grapes, anyone? Leave it alone mate.

I agree with Classic Solutions.

The BEST bloke (in my humble opinion) is Frank Williams’ company, Fretwood Pty Ltd.

Frank was one of the first asbestos removalists in the ACT, and was involved with the ACT government in setting the standard for others to be licensed.

I think the number is still 6251 3923 or 0407 628 135.

He’s also a JP so you know he’s trustworthy.

I have also had dealings with fretwood and he is the rudest man I have ever had the mis fortune of coming across
And as for setting the standard I have never seen him double wrap any asbestos he has removed

feel free to talk to him but Classic Solutions is the way to go

If you draw your example from ASIO and/or the Dept of Treasury, you just have to truck it off to the Murrumbateman landfill, where it will all be sweet and rosy.

This bloody ASIO project just gets better and better.
How exactly did this mammoth project get through without any public scrutiny?

Make sure they do the job properly. A colleague had a relative detained at the airport because of ‘possible explosive material’ located on her after one of those residue scans. Turns out it was asbestos dust….

Needless to say there were some heated discussions with the ‘experienced company’ that was being paid thousands to remove the asbestos lined bathroom and laundry at the time.

We had our laundry and a bathroom cleaned up about 4 months ago by:

Peter White
T.T. Asbestos Removals
02 6241 8171
0418 626 482

We’re very happy with the service and price. Peter was easy to get hold of (leave a voicemail, cause he can’t really answer his phone when he’s suited up, he always called us back) and turned up on time.

Classic Solutions.

Used them for a local govt job and can assure you that they are definately not hacks.
