Asian Infiltration

Danman 5 October 2007 33

Bowing to pressure from the minions for more Danman pixel grabbing I present the following.
This picture is a classic story of photography – being in the right place at the right time and knowing how to capture what you see….
Asian Infiltration

I called it Asian Infiltration because those sneaky bronze sculptures look like they are up to something.
Critique welcome…
Enjoy !

I’ll see if I can find an old photo I took of it in B&W when I was at uni doing cultural heritage conservation.

I have a penchant for the naked chicks 😛

My all time favourite sculpture lies not far from the heads in the pond.

Stackhouse’s ‘On the Beach’

Nawt .. I believe you said ‘critique welcome’?

Well said – proof that what you believe is actually true.

I did give RA readers teh credit to assume I meant the photo – not what you thought of what I called it.

If I wanted to be racist I probably would have called it something a bit more in your face (use your imagination – its not my style).

At the end of the day I know what I meant and I know I am not a racist so assume away – but remember to assume makes an ass out of u and me.

I could have called it gypsy sun and rainbows (A Jimi Hendrix Band of the early 60’s)and you would say I am racist against Romanian people.

Nawt by name…

ghengis khan’s dna’s is one of the most prevelant in all of europe.

Maelinar Maelinar 4:27 pm 08 Oct 07

I have an Asian look. My family escorted the everlasting emperor, Ghengis Khan across Asia into current day Hugary/Turkey.

That said, they look like Asians.

perhaps you should have could “a nice visit from several nondescript looking male and/or female earth beings” that would eliminate any chance of being offensive.

Thumper Thumper 4:12 pm 08 Oct 07

Okay, demoniseing people who look like Yul Bryner (who was pretty cool BTW)

nawt nawt 4:10 pm 08 Oct 07

“demonising bald men” is not an example of being racist, Thumper, because all races go bald.

“Furthermore I would look pretty stupid if I called my photo “Caucasian Infiltration” when its obvious the artist modelled the bronze heads on asian heritage.”

Asian heritage? A PC way of saying they look Asian? But what does an Asian look like, Danman? Slit eyes? What about Central Asians, Indians and Pakistanis? Have you ever been to Latin America? Seen how Andean people can look like the Chinese?

.. I believe you said ‘critique welcome’?

Thumper Thumper 3:57 pm 08 Oct 07

Nawt, you are a tosser, sorry if you were offended.

Another person that thinks anyone that says anything that is not PC then they have to be racist.

Okay, the heads all look like Yul Bryner.

Whoops, that’s demonising bald men…

get a life nawt – If I wanted to be racist (is that what your post is insinuating?) I would not be covert.

Furthermore I would look pretty stupid if I called my photo “Caucasian Infiltration” when its obvious the artist modelled the bronze heads on asian heritage.

“I called it Asian Infiltration because those sneaky bronze sculptures look like they are up to something”, “PS: The Asians look like monkey men, designed to frighten us westerners,” “spooky gookies”.

Great. Just great. Don’t look now, but they’ve already made it to Dickson, Pandy. Your culinary choices are ever dwindling. Asian infiltration? Shut the gates. Sneaky bastards. Keep them out.

And as for ‘gookie’, that’s just bloody offensive. Yer funny, Thumper. Funny like a little girl running naked from a Vietnamese village with her skin on fire.

Thumper Thumper 8:08 am 08 Oct 07

Ah, the spooky gookies in the pond at the Gallery.

Odd, very odd….

mutley – thats my forte – low/no (perceivable) light photography.. – cheers for the kudos

By the way, I’ve had a look through your flickr album and really like a lot of your low light stuff, especially the available light ones.

Hey Danman,

Really like the shot. My only comment/suggestion would be a wider, shorter crop… maybe 16:9 ratio or wider (depending on whether you’ve already cropped). The reeds at the top can be a little distracting.

You could say so, Danman. I think this belongs to an Art sub-genre: SRA (subliminally racist art).

Speaking photo-technique: did you try holding the camera just an inch above the water, i.e. lower angle? It would be interesting to see the result!

Mind you, they’d still all look the same…

Danman_straight6_EB_Falcodore Danman_straight6_EB_Falcodore 2:55 pm 06 Oct 07

hasdrubahl, are you saying that this is art imitating life ?

Hasdrubahl Hasdrubahl 6:55 am 06 Oct 07

Funny how they all look the same…

Danman_straight6_EB_Falcodore Danman_straight6_EB_Falcodore 6:35 am 06 Oct 07

I’m too frightened to comment, in case he takes great offense, and removes his image.

Not sure what you mean here champ.

It does say that critique is welcome so fire away.
