Ask RiotACT: Florist for Valentine’s Day?

Ask RiotACT

With Valentines Day fast approaching, florists have begun to massively inflate the prices of their products, anticipating the surge in demand on the 12th, 13th and 14th of February.

For those romantics out there who aren’t able to afford a $100 bouquet of a dozen roses, are there any cheaper florists around North Canberra or Civic?

As a bonus, any suggestions for Valentines Day activities in and around Canberra would be greatly appreciated!

For a list of Canberra’s best florists – as recommended by the community – take a look at our article, The Best Florists in Canberra, for some helpful information.

I just presented my beloved wife with a potted, flowering plant for this silly thing called Valentines Day.
Her response?: “I expected some nice flowers!”
My reply: “flowers only last a few days my love, this plant is eternal, just like our love for each other”.
I got away with it (so far).

Poetry in flowers in Gunghalin.
They were fantastic for my wedding and only about 50% of the other quotes I got.

The Floral Society in Kingston is great – they have free delivery and online ordering, with beautiful bunches starting at $33.

I can highly recommend GG’s Flowers. GG’s are a socially sustainable florist – they only employ young people with disabilities so your money is going somewhere meaningful. This Valentine’s Day they are doing a dozen red roses for $80, but also have other arrangements for less. They have options for every budget. They’re based in Chifley but delivery is $10.
