Ask RiotACT

Hi Rioters.

I am looking for a car mechanic/service person in the Belconnen area (or close surrounds) that can do Volvo diagnostics (eg when a light is on). I’m after someone who is reasonably priced, reliable and preferably has a courtesy car or drop off service. And no, I don’t want the sun and the moon as well… just a service I can trust.

Thank you in advance.

We are having our Volvo (D4 2015) serviced today by a guy who we trust – his name is John and he owns a business called Euroworks. He’s done diagnostics for us before. http://euroworksautocare.com.au/ He travels to you so no need to take your car anywhere. If he needs to do more work he does have a place in Belco I think.

Just on your dashboard light – not sure what the light is obviously, but we had recent issues with the exhaust emissions thingo – if it’s an oil light and your car is running a bit lumpy, then this could be it. Apparently there’s a sort of soft recall in progress where if you go into the dealer with it they will do it for free or under your warranty. Could also just be a software update required – apparently they need them very often.

Good luck, and if you get in contact with John then tell him Frances sent you.

Sounds like you have a terminal DPF problem. https://www.volvoclub.org.uk/diesel_filter.shtml

Get rid of it and get a petrol one instead.

Thanks for your advice, however it was the EGR – exhaust gas regulator and it is now fixed. As I said, a known issue with volvos, fixed as people, or rather cars present with the problem.

Are you my next door neighbour? He seems to know everything too.

I was only trying to help and I do know a bit about this problem.
The malfunction of the EGR means your DPF will get totally clogged when it is regenerating and they are very expensive to replace. Did you have a revised EGR fitted or a “VW-type software tweak”? I suggest you closely monitor your fuel consumption from now on.
Most European diesels have these type of problems which are caused by ad hoc engineering fixes to meet EER6 pollution standards. The fact that you and the OP said you were “looking for someone you can trust” indicates that whoever sold you the cars isn’t to be trusted and they have failed to resolve previous problems you have had with your vehicles.

Did your neighbour mention that too?
