I am looking for a hair and make-up stylist for a photo shoot of 21 year old male – is there anyone in the Canberra region? I’d prefer a male, or a female who has experience of male models.

Easily Sid at Price Attack in Woden Plaza. Stumbled over him by accident and several woman at my work have changed long term stylists because of his amazing cuts, personality and price. He is honest and refreshing and a little cheeky. I adore him and would recommend him to anyone.

Do they do astroturfing too?

When I was a kid my father used to refer to a lame joke as “a seven day joke” (week/weak).

I wonder what he would call a joke which takes more than four years for someone to get.

I have to say after 5 yrs in Canberra I have finally found THE best male haidresser for women….Adam @ Axis Hair!!

Not only were the staff polite and genuine the salon was lovley and not a factory like Cataldos and many others.

Adam listened to what I wanted and didn’t want; he has real talent and understands what looks best on what face shape to make you look beautiful!! : ))
He’s also a little cheeky so watch out ; )

Lexi did my colour and it was devine – another talented gal and she gives the best head massges when washing your hair!! : )

Overall Axia made me feel like ‘family’ and I felt completely comfortable with my hair in their hands – afterall that is what I am paying for; upt to date skills and great talent !!!

Why does it have to be a male hairdresser? Surely ability is the important issue here?

When I see posts like this on the RiotACT, I can’t help but wonder whether local businesses have clued into using blogs as “viral marketing”.

WilllowJim, I think it’s technically known as ‘astroturfing’ – ‘viral marketing’ involves real people actually being genuinely interested.

The specific request for a male certainly makes more sense in this context.

What is the point of this question? If you are after a good haircut why do you specifically need a man? Are you a lesbian whose partner gets jealous of other women touching her hair? Are you a heterosexual hair fetishist looking for a bit on the side? Please tell me because I am plagued by curiosity.

Boyd @ Shi in Kingston, Marco @ Woden (not sure of salon name, but he’s ex Shi)

Or when you were asking for a ‘male hairdresser for women’ was that code for ‘male hairdresser’ in the, ahem, ‘Don’t Mess with the Zohan’ sense?? (Otherwise why restrict your search to one gender?)

Check out Salon Altenburg at the Hyperdome (well it’s between Hyper-D and the Library) you can book online at http://www.salonaltenburg.com – great for people like me who are all, ‘Hmmm, I don’t know what haircut I want…’ I am SO bad with names, but a nice, young, Yankie bloke helped me so I thought I’d let you all know.

I definitely second this recommendation. Matt at salon altenburg is fantastic, and the prices are so reasonable.

Okay Gretal; for wonderful hair, in our lovely Northern suburbs, give Angie a call on 0402 020 863. She is really excellent, but she does likes to ‘hook in’, so if you want a very minor trim, be emphatic about exactly how much you want taken off.

In the past few months I have also discovered Sam, who is more centrally located (Barton), willing to come to your home, slightly less expensive and an excellent cutter and colourist. I would certainly place her on par with Angie, but Sam is that little bit more conveniently located to my work. I have received a lot of hair compliments in the past few months (which is always the sign of a good stylist).

Sam’s number is 0423 279 620; she works out of her home salon in Barton. I am sure that you’ll be delighted with either of these stylists … I am extremely fussy about hair (and in fact, was once a hair model in Melbourne, so I do know good hair!)

Let me know how you go!

Would also like to know which mobile hairdresser Deezagood goes to in Belconnen

Paul at Woden Tradies is the cheapest and the best. But you have to book, he’s always flat out. He does men’s as well as women’s cuts.

Thanks everyone (except WillowJim) for your help. I took my son to Cataldos at Woden and they charged $110.00 for a cut and some colour!! Cancelled my booking straight away.

In my quest to find Canberra’s best hairdresser when I moved here a few years ago, I can comment on a number of fellows mentioned in the posts above. Boyd at Shi does a brilliant cutting job, that I wasn’t overly impressed by the girl who coloured my hair. They are also extremely expensive. Adam as Axis does a fantastic job of cutting and colouring hair too – but again, I find $240.00-$260.00 for a cut/colour every six – eight weeks too pricey. Vince at Salon Saraci (Lanyon shops) is more reasonably priced, and just as talented as the more expensive salons – I strongly recommend him. Unfortunately his Tuggers location means that he is branded a ‘suburban hairdresser’, but he could easily be working in one of the more prestigious salons around town. I now go to a hairdresser in Belconnen (even though I live southside), who is brilliant at both cutting and colouring, and charges about half of what the big salons charge (she operates from home) – but she is a woman, and you wanted to see a guy?? If you want her details, let me know.

I’d love to know who this is… must be good if you are willing to travel from Southside to Belconnen for a hair appointment. Am so over all these hairdressers charging a packet for mediocre cuts.

Adam from Axis is an amazing hairdresser. He does a terrific cut each time and the cut holds its style. I have been to heaps of hairdressers and none were as good as Adam. Adam listens to you and gives you the cut that you ask for every time.

Adam at Axis on Barry Drive is a magician!
I had my first appointment with him for a cut in early Decmber and I am amazed at how my hair has kept its shape.

Always a bit sceptical of newbie post that give glowing referals.

But having said that, Adam has cut my hair on occassions (but I’m a guy) and has been taught by one of the best in the business, his uncle Gianni who owns Axis.

Dont be sceptical, these boys can cut hair!!

I have had both Gianni and Adam Cut my hair at various times, Adam is definitely the more creative, who seems to do more up to date styles. Maybe the Master has been passed by the Apprentice. Adam is very well respected as being one of the leading hairdressers in Canberra. A lot of my friends and colleagues see Adam and speak highly of his work, i think its about $80 for shampoo cut and dry. And he is pretty flexible too he squeezes me in all the time!!!
